I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Well done Hooli.Micky, I saw old pic of your 650 Yam, very nice. Mustve been a "thing" to fit 16 inch rear wheel. I can remember lack of choice for tyres after I did it.

MickyJB

Grog, to long ago to remember tyre choices 🤷♂️ but I can still remember the tingling feeling in my hands 😂😂

Vibration doesn't stand out in my memory, maybe yours worse with 750 kit?? I did Bris to Bathurst in one day, muffler came off, took a while to find it, headlight blew low beam, last hour every car was flashing me.Great bike.

MickyJB

Nah the vibration was there before the kit .. longest ride I did was Melbourne to Sydney on a Friday arvo and returned Sunday night. Was freezing cold !!  And all I had was an oil skin dryzabone coat .. headlight bulb blew so I just stayed in the middle of my two mates, one on a XS1100 and the other a Honda Goldwing 1000.

Lots of stories over that weekend 🫣😂😂😂

Continuing search for fault, revisited all, connections and cleaned them all, again.

She actually, started but then suddenly cut out, again too.  :frustrated:   :bugga:

Didn't notice that the wire from the optimate had fallen onto the exhaust until it was too, late and has now, melted the insulation, shorting it out.  :bugga:  :bugga:  :bugga:

Thanks a lot, for the tip. Much appreciated.  :onya:  :salute:  :hat:

Is the key reader available as a separate part? Part number? What happens if you power to the starter motor, just cranks. I read on here similar story to yours, he unplugged & replugged every connection in headlight. Fixed it

Key reader not oem but universal and available on e-bay. Doesn't work on all vehicles, so no guarantee but worth a try for £5

Done all of that but no joy  :frustrated:

Bled clutch line, I was surprised how dark the fluid was compared to new, seem to remember changing it less than 12 months ago.  Did manage to get a decent air bubble out of the line when the res was about half empty.  Flushed through, all new fluid. Checked the 'Busa slave rod seal  all ok.

Bled both front brake calipers, sane story as the clutch, fluid was darker than i expected.  No trapped bubbles though, nice hard lever.  Rear brake done too, both front and rear bleed nipples done, dark fluid as well, but as bad as the front. Nice hard pedal as well.

Re-greased the gear lever pivot, thinking about doing the self-lubricating bronze sleeve bearing mod, but the play in the pivot is minor, and when I fill it with grease, there's bugger all play.  Checked the gear linkage, the side stand switch and all ok.

Finally a few drops of VMX heavy gear oil (80W90) on the chain, a few spins and wipes, then good to go.

Still to check tyre pressures before the next ride (been 4 weeks since she last ran) thid  coming weekend, but should be good to go.

Eric what brand of brake fluid are using and what DOT rating ?
I use Motul DOT 4 as it's donated by a sponsor.
My clutch fluid always goes darkest first. I'm sure our humidity is the issue.
I'm in the habit now of changing it annually and happy to do the full flush through as you've indicated. I usually borrow a vacuum pump that pulls all the old stuff out and pulls the new fluid through very efficiently, hardly any bleeding required.
I use Grogs tip of tapping everything at the very end and it's surprising how much that can produce sometimes.

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

Thanks Chris, I use Penrite DOT4 and I bleed the conventional way, but I do revisit each bleed point again. The dark fluid also makes it easy to tell when the new fluid comes through.

Time probably got away from me and it more like its been 2years since the last change.

Doesn't hurt to replace fluids are cheap.

The whole works took about an hour, gave me some valuable shed time.  I was pleased to note no leaks at any of the banjo's, calipers, master or slave reservoirs..

Well done Eric, must be time for mine also. I use Protex, only because it's a nice colour.GulfWestern is nearly clear, silly idea imo. Dot 4 actually absorbs more water than Dot 3, 2 yr change they reco.Another worm can, the best brake fluid😂😂

grog

BTW, one way valve for bleeding, will give it a try for $7. I have vac bleeder, prefer old skool way so might suit me.
