Mt Binga fire tower

Shimmel Road through Mt BInga is closed in the middle.
There's an excavator digging rocks and gravel out of the hillside, trucks tipping it in the single lane road, loose fill and rocks like shoe box's and bigger. Nowhere to go if you meet a truck or grader in some sections.

You'll need to get a larger Dakar style fuel tank, or an auxiliary one soon, to allow explorations further afield
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Yeah, I've priced them up, if I start going further afield I'd need to do the gearing too. They aren't ideal for the road, 100kph feels too busy with the rev's, even on the dirt I'm mostly in 4th and 5th.

I still have a lot of local tracks and trails to explore for a while. I might have to buy one of those Adventure Bike if I don't get bored or do myself an injury., instead of turning this bike into something it isn't.

Jimna, Mt Binga, Pechey.

I do know to a few more to do too.

Getting right into the off road Tony. 👍 Jimna ive climbed, 47 metres, tallest wooden tower sthn hemisphere. Think it used to have a info board at top. A bit of history and direction arrows with distance to wherever.

Took the 1402 to the BMW club meet today, bike is running perfectly again, this was the first long ride out since getting it back to where it should be.

Got a few nice comments from the guys, they hadn't seen it before, some thought it was new.  Bike is well behaved now, low speed running is as it should be now.

Happy Days.

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

We did an overnighter to Wondai for a Christmas party.
Did the scenic rides up and back.
The perfect riding weather this weekend. I didn't even pack any wet gear I was so confident.

I've got a few different size bladders you're welcome to borrow for a test before shelling out for a big tank if you like. They just gather dust between remote trips.

If you intend to keep riding solo I think you're on one of the best options. The safety factor of a lighter bike in comparison to "adventure bikes" (e.g. my 990) shouldn't be overlooked. You should also consider a PLB or other satellite comms device - I personally don't leave home without my Garmin Inreach.

I've always said DRZ's do everything but none of it particularly well. A true compromise. Fit 15/44 sprockets and call it done as an all rounder. I rode mine from Toowoomba to Cape York and back again with nothing more than that gearing, a 17L tank and well setup suspension.

Thanks. I appreciate that.

I do try and stick to my own rule of not changing stuff on a new bike untill I'm used to it, live with it for a little while first, but it soon became obvious the tank size and gearing could be more suitable, obviously why the accessories list so many options.

I do like some of the extras, tech and toys available but I don't want to spend a fortune trying to turn it into something it isn't. Long term I'd rather spend the money on Busa's or buy another off road bike with better road manners.

It's a fun little bike as it is, but I'll certainly consider trying your tank, thanks for the offer.

Living up here, riding on weekdays most of my rides are solo, even running out to places like Roma and Chinchilla or up to Gaynda there's places where it'd be handy on my road bikes.

I did the Baja twice on a DRZ, fell off a dozen times - nothing drastic and had a blast! Good bike ended up with a broken frame as punished it so much. Did the Continental Divide Mexico to Canada 4K in the dirt (18 days) on a DR650 - both bikes had Baja tanks and we carried Rotopaxs - last run before flicking all the dirt stuff - age stuffed that - it began to hurt to much!! All good fun!!!
I need to go somewhere I've not been but won't know until I get there!
