Quote from: lurch on Sunday, 07 December  2025, 06:41 PMI've always said DRZ's do everything but none of it particularly well. A true compromise.

One of the things the 400E does well that was an attraction is it's a very long running, well selling low tech bike.

For a small market like AU to sell 21,000 of them over 21 years and having such a huge back up of parts, knowledge, accessories etc for a bike that hit the showrooms 2 decades ago and is still there appeals to me.

After buying B-King parts and being told No Stock / not available, or booking a H2 in for a service / recall and being told Sorry we aren't trained, try a dealer 180K's away, the very basic outdated DRZ is a breath of fresh air.

Can't think of many bikes that were in the showroom in 2001 and still are that so many folk, both shop mechanics and the public have so much experience with.  I like that, along with it being a bike they just couldn't build and sell in the future.

It's not a flash bike to boast about but it's a honest little ride that's not pretending to be something it's not.

Did the Coromandel Loop to look at the Pohutukawa trees in blossom with management on the back. Stinking hot. Had a great day, such an easy bike two up. 407kms 8 till 8, plenty of stops. The pool was refreshing but still 29°C when we got home.

Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Pohutukawa looks nice, ours are not flowering yet.  I'll be doing the Coromandel loop in Feb, overnight in Thames after it enroute to AKL next day.

Went out for a bit of a local run today, nowt much but a couple of screen grabs from the video.

I rode out for a friend's funeral today, appropriate cold wet weather for him to laugh at all the idiots riding in winter. Must have been near 100 bikes out for him, Jack was a popular old bugger.

No better tribute to a true friend than by enduring unpleasant weather for a funeral.
My friends will warm themselves on my funeral pyre.

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

Had a Mate, alcoholic since teens, Victoria Bitter drinker. He was a great bloke, at entrance to his funeral everyone had to grab a VB tally(750ml bottle).

325K's / 202 miles, mostly warmer than ideal, dash showed 37 C for quite a while, detour to miss the black clouds where the rain started. Had breakfast and coffee with the guy behind the $650m Gondwana vehicle testing facility that's planned for Qld. Interesting guy, ex-TT racer out on a very trick Aprilia.
