Nice one mate, lots to tinker on.
Check that ABS pump, more likely than not it will be gummed up with old brake fluid and the abs pump motor's brushes will have tons of carbon dust in them.  Maybe there's a delete kit for these ?  The VTR1000 engine is rock solid, could turn it into a sleeper by swapping in VTR cams and a big bore kit.  I do like a bike with a higher seating position, great visibility.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

If carbs the cv rubbers go brittle with age 🧐

Injection so apparently a lot better on fuel when you wind it on.

I won't be tweaking this one, it's a shed & for daily chugging about. It's stupidly easy to ride though, I've already noticed that.

I like what you bought Hooli, sort of what you never thought youd buy. Im looking at something different, no idea what, plenty of time to fix.

There's very little choice for upright cheap bikes around here Grog, it's not something I'd ever have gone looking for either. I'm quite surprised that it feels like I'll enjoy riding it once I've sorted the little issues out. It is bloody ugly though, but that just means she'll try harder right?  :lol:

OK, sorry for the long post, but theres some context.  so i used my coolant vac down kit (basically a 4-way connector), one to a vac gauge, the other to a compressed air source one atmosphere and the 4th to whatever you are drawing the air from.

Taped 3 AA 1.5v batteries in series to give me ~4.8v, then the ground to both the multimeter black, and middle on the MAP.

Positive from the battery to outside pin on the MAP and then positive from the multimeter to the other outer pin on the MAP. The vac port on the MAP connected to my vac rig, then by connecting my compressor hose I create a vacuum (via the venturi effect) in the MAP. Results for both the  IAP and MAP listed below:

At atmospheric: both 3.8v
At 500mmHg vacuum: 1.6v

Now, the manual says around 2.4v at 526mmHg, and also to check if the voltage increases as the vacuum reduces back to atmospheric. 

Both IAP and MAP did, as I unplugged the compressor from rhe power point and let the tank drain down, slowly reducing the vacuum in the gauge as the pressure equalised.

So, question is are both IAP and MAP faulty,given the 1.6v reading at 500mmHg, or are both good, and I still haven't resolved my running issue?

The new MAP on its way will go in, then one of the old sensors will do duty as the IAP.

Will also re check the wire signal to the MAP again tomorrow.

I have no idea what most of this technical talk has been about, but I admire your tenacity and knowledge. I really hope the new 'bit' sorts it out.
There's always room in the world for a bit more tolerance and kindness.

I'd be surprised if both sensors were faulty considering they read the same Eric, it's a bloody strange one with your bike. Have you tried an exorcism?

Did a bit more fiddling on it after work last night. Pilly peg now moves after WD40 & some firm persuasion, didn't half make a loud bang as the sprung ball released and it's behaving after a bit of exercise. I've moved the heated grip controller to a sensible place, you had to take your hand off the throttle & reach forwards before. I also tided the wiring to them as it was hanging loose & getting trapped in the steering, it's now weatherproof & supported. Rear brakelight switch is now adjusted properly & now the lever is lubed it should work better. Topbox is removed too.

Still unsure if I'll change the bars, they are a bit bent so I probably will. I'll speak to the local breakers at the weekend. I ordered some 2nd hand crash bars off ebay last night too, as it'll be a winter hack I think I might be fitting the 'standard' extra lights adv bikes always get as the headlights aren't incredible (but are a lot better than some).

yes, its got me stumped so far as sensors etc are concerned, they all seem to be working. Will do a valve clearance check at some point.
