Quote from: Hooli on Saturday, 30 August  2025, 11:25 PMThat's great news Eric, glad you've found something that sounds like the issue at last. Might be worth a continuity check on the wires from the MAP plug to the ECU, just in case.. The ECU pin numbers are given in the workshop manual in the MAP trouble shooting bit.

I'll send the consultancy bill via the usual method
continuity check done, all ok.  Ordered the sensor from Webike, still 240 aussie dollars, not 455 like the mick hone website, didn't want to take a chance on an Amazon cheapy, besides, they're still around 100aud landed here. At least the webike is genuine suzuki...

Owe you a beer or three Hooli

Send him a case of Fosters Eric -  :stir:  :rofl2:   I'm sure he'd like that   :whistling:
It is our finest export after all, surely should be able to pick up a case or two from his local.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Well done Eric.Should run perfectly now with everything else youve done👍

Eric GSX1400K3

Hope so mate, just got notification from Webike that the MAP sensor has shipped.

New plugs, new injectors, all connectors checked, need to tweak the throttle return, (its sticking a bit), tyre pressures correct and ready to roll after a wash and polish.

I always thought a fair chance map sensor the problem, read that swapping iap with it would give the clue. Didnt work for you so that idea thrown out the door. Good learning process and happy ending. 👏

Eric GSX1400K3

Point noted Grog, I sm a bit worried that both IAP and MAP are buggered, will find out in time I guess. I still want to try my vac gauge and battery check of the MAP and IAP as per workshop manual.

Beer drinker all my life Hooli, have never met anyone who drinks Fosters. Have never seen it on tap, not sure how it became Australias favourite, so called.

Hooli

I don't know many who drink it here Grog, except girls & teenagers who don't know better.

Barry MacKenzie movies made Fosters popular in UK.
I drank it begrudgingly in Dallas Texas as I was still a philistine 1988-89 I think. It came in 1 litre cans and after 5 barman cut me off. Met a cute girl who said she knew a bar and that's all I remember lol 😂

waddaya mean "was"?      What ya implying Chris . . .  :happy1:

I've seen (and tasted - my job after all) some of those 1L cans, we get them here in the supermarket, but these ones are mostly of Dutch / German origin.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Remember my comment there's sod all cheap bikes about to use as winter snotters? well...

I rode this home this evening. It's a proper shitter & looks like it's been down on both sides so many times it prefers it to standing up. I might have to get some bars for it as I'm sure they're bent, I'll see how it feels now the back wheel is straight in the swing arm. It's comfy, pulls nicely & smooth for a V-twin. Seems to have a bit of go in it but on soft tyres, odd bars & wet roads I wasn't finding out tonight. Noisy cans on it too, so it sounds like a V-twin. it's comedy tall as well, I can't flat foot it & not quite sure if I can even get both feet down at once. Makes you feel like you're sat on a car roof you're so far up when riding, visibility will be great over hedges etc

My rough list of things to fix/do so far are -

Heated grips controller is in a stupid place, so it can move to the left where you don't need your throttle hand to reach for it.
Front brake light switch doesn't work
Silly tiny (too small for a helmet) topbox can come off, if for no other reason than it's fitted too far forwards & makes it nearly impossible to remove the seat
Possibly needs a battery, the bloke did tell me that so I'm going to see how it goes. Rode it 10miles home & my battery tester says 50% so I'm not hopeful it'll recover. For now my jump pack will travel with me
Back brake is weak but it's new pads so I'll see if it beds in, feels like it might need a bleed & could probably do with new fluid anyway
Petrol light doesn't work. These don't have gauges, just a range display & a low fuel light. Looks like real bulbs so I'll start there when I investigate
Mirrors, I've got the matching el-cheapo mirror for the one on there. He'd just lost the allen bolt to fit it, so I'll get one & put that on. It didn't vibrate & gave a decent view so they'll be fine
LH pilly peg doesn't come down, needs a twat with a hammer & some WD40 I'd guess. Feels like the sprung ball catch is stuck
Steering lock doesn't work, I'll have a poke as the wiring has all been disturbed so wouldn't surprise me if something is in the way
Chain needs a good clean & lube cause it's been standing. I've got a spare Scottoiler so I'll fit that

Already done -

Sticky throttle fixed when I got home by trimming the end of the heated grip properly
Back wheel is now straight in the swingarm, was about 3mm out on the swingarm adjusters
Tyres are now pumped up, both were about 20psi
Screen is now screwed on tight, it was wobbling about with 1/4" play in the bolts when it got home

It also came with a pair of thin summer gloves as he's giving up road riding & going back to motorcross stuff & an alarmed disklock which is on it in the garage. I'll bring the big chain home from work as it's not really needed inside a locked compound so I can chain this to the HD or the ground anchor the HD is on, depends how I can park them up to do it.

Anyway with 56k miles (I think, it's 50 something) runs sweet & rides like there's nothing major wrong with it I can't complain for £1150.

We had Dero's here for a number of years it's basically a VTR1000 motor with slightly less aggressive cams. More torque than horsepower.
Is it carbs or injection ?
If carbs the cv rubbers go brittle with age 🧐
