Well, I ended up putting a new 240/50 rear tire on mine. Everyone told me the wider tires are a bugger to fit up.  TBH it came off easy & went on easy, just as easy or easier than the 180 on the GSX.  Dunno what they're on about.
Balanced on the static balancer, happy enough where it's at. Going to do a bevel box oil change tomorrow, just cos it's up in the air & the wheel is off. Only uses 150ml, so the 2.5L pack I brought will probably see my days out . . .
Front is still reasonable, so will leave that for a few more thousand k's.

Just an FYI, the rear is the OEM one & it's done 11680k's when I changed it.  It could probably legally run a couple months before being right out, but she's pretty thin in the centre & makes you prone to punctures etc. Some parts are worn to the wear indicator other are not.  I like to know I've got good rubber, that way I'm ready for a trip when the fancy takes me & not worrying about tread depth.

Plus at "WARP" speed which you've been achieving lately, they're prone to delaminate when there is little coverage and the heat gets to the belts.   They look like a burst balloon, ask me how I know LOL.
I'm looking at a modern Rocket like yours here Col even second hand price seems expensive.
There's a plethora of BMW RT1250's for sale currently. I guess they're all trying to bankroll there new RT1300's. :stir:
I'm also considering a GOLD WING. However definitely not a new one.  :whistling:

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

My brother just brought a BMW S1000XR.  Now there's a feisty beast by all accounts.  170hp & top out at 270k's.  He said has a shift light in the centre of the dash that comes on at 12,000!   Not that he's seen it, said he hasn't been past 5000 revs yet.   There could be some fun this coming summer if the bro's manage a get together.

They are normally adjustable in 500rpm steps. It's very common to have them set quite low untill the first service.
If it comes on at 12k someone's reset it at the top end of the power.

My Kawasaki came with adjustable rev limit light show, I've changed it as I've run it in not that it makes any difference to me I'm not a rev hound, less is more as far as revs is concerned in my garage.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Had a look at Goldwing price after you mentioned Chris, didnt realise over 50g now. FJR not on your list? I know a couple of blokes with both those, huge reliable ks. Wally, ive mentioned b4 , up around 500 th ks. His reverse gear failed around 200, Honda fixed no cost.

I went to buy a FJR once, came out with that Sprint GT. Silly mistake, but at the time I didn't feel like I was old enough for a sensible tourer  :stir:

50k for a GW?  Wow, if i had to spend that on a bike, id rather     an MV Augusta or Ducati.  I do think the FJR is highly underrated.  It was on my list for sports tourer, but the K1300GT BMW came up first.  I'm thinking there may still be room in the shed for another bike, maybe an FJR shaped gap but the new R1300 BMW looks nice too.....
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Well, looks like we have a winner....

Unplugged the MAP and checked the vac hoses, these were clear.

Ran the bike with the vac hoses plugged in but MAP unplugged, and hey presto, bike ran sweet, no stuttering, backfires or pops.

So it seems the MAP has failed.  FI code popped up but thats expected when unplugging jt.

Swapped the IAP for the MAP and same story, but note that the faulty MAP is then running as the IAP. Bike still ran choppy.

I will order two new sensors from Webike Japan tonight, hope thats the end of the saga and I can get her off the ramp and on the road.

Many thanks to all , especially Hooli for the idea to run with the MAP disconnected.

That's great news Eric, glad you've found something that sounds like the issue at last. Might be worth a continuity check on the wires from the MAP plug to the ECU, just in case.. The ECU pin numbers are given in the workshop manual in the MAP trouble shooting bit.

I'll send the consultancy bill via the usual method

I had a flick through used bike prices last night, thinking I need a winter snotter. Something like my Hornet that lives with Nic would be ideal... but I told her she can use it as long as she wants & I won't go back on that.

Anyway there's nothing out there for 'not very much' that isn't a 125 or a sports bike, neither of which I want.

continuity check done, all ok.  Ordered the sensor from Webike, still 240 aussie dollars, not 455 like the mick hone website, didn't want to take a chance on an Amazon cheapy, besides, they're still around 100aud landed here. At least the webike is genuine suzuki...

Owe you a beer or three Hooli

Great to hear you've identified the culprit Eric...it's been a saga, but I and others will benefit from it should our bikes experience the same issue.

"Hooli was right"  :clapping:
There's always room in the world for a bit more tolerance and kindness.
