Have you considered a new frame, they are about 3-500 quid ?

To Infirmity and Beyond.. :-)

Hooli

TBH no, it'd hardly be the same bike in a new frame. That is the path of last resort though.

GSXKING

I'm staggered at the amount of rust like most here have been. I wish you well with that repair. The stress on that part of the frame must be spread across both parts. You're definitely lucky you spotted it when you did.
However the amount of riding @Hooli has done in all kinds of weather in UK with salted roads we shouldn't be surprised eh @ Notty.
I'd be considering that frame swap because rust is like cancer it can pop up in other places too.
Good luck with the repair anyway

It's not quite true to the original because of having to fix the frame tube behind it but it's solid, safe & my mate refused anything for doing it. Can't get a better repair than that.

I'll get a few coats of paint on it this week & do everything else next week as I'm at a rally this weekend.

KiwiCol

It's a nice repair patch Hooli  :onya: , I just hope the internal rust doesn't continue & eat the frame from the inside out.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

It would be constantly on my mind. Plus welding these frames with out being in a jig I'd worry about alignment.  :confused1:

The only thing that could be out of alignment is the shock top & they are on rubber bushes. It looks straight anyway.

GSXKING

@Hooli if you source a frame I'll contribute to the cost because you're a very generous individual and deserve to have nothing on your mind other than enjoying your ride. 🙏🙏👍👍

Thanks but I'm happy to keep using this one. Rick has built frames before so I trust his work to make it safe.

OK mate  :salute: the offer will always be here  :onya:

M.O.T today - passed with flying colours  :onya:
Got home and replaced HP filter in the tank, was going to do the external mod but had one of the cheapies on the shelf, so put that in, pump sounds much quieter and bike rides fine, the filter in there was the original so 22 years old!

Hooli

What mileage? as I'm nosy & find those filters last about 50k in my experience.
