Yesterday..... all my troubles seemed.....

No hang on.

Yesterday I got my HD dyno tuned to suit the decat, homemade pipe & open K&N filter. I knew it wasn't right as it'd never been as smooth or responsive since doing all that. I had run a downloaded map from Dynojet, but just wasn't happy with to the point it annoyed me at times riding it.

It's a much slower process with a Power Vision than a Power Commander, cause it's slower to edit, more to edit & then you have to rewrite the ECU before retesting. Interesting to see how it's done though, rather than directly modify the injector timings like a PC3, the PV gets the VE tables edited. That's Volumetric Efficiency, or how well the cylinder fills per stroke - at all different RPM/throttle combinations. By editing that, the ECU then calculates a different amount of fuel is required. Doing it this way means if the O2 sensors are still in use (mine aren't because of the decat) then the target range of the ECU is set to what the tuner wants, so it stays correct. Edit a closed loop system with a PC3 & it'd adjust itself back to the original mixture to counteract the PC3's work.

Anyway, the end result is it's much much smoother at all normal riding speeds & pulls cleanly from lower speeds in each gear than before. Previously about 35mph was the lower limit for 4th uphill, now it'll do 25mph & be smoother & more responsive than it was before at 35mph. It just feels 'happy' like it's running properly now, which is what I wanted. Gained 2bhp & 6lb/ft as well, which is always nice. I'd thought it might have got to near 90bhp from the standard 82bhp, so 88bhp is a good enough result to me, not sure what the standard torque is but 116lb/ft pushes it down the road quite acceptabily. I don't want or need any more power in it, it's nicely balanced to match the handling as it is.

Then I spent the rest of the day on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales enjoying how well it ran & visiting a couple of nice looking pubs for rehydration to stay safe in the sun.

I got new tyres fitted on the HD today. I took the loose wheels in as it's cheaper, most places won't take the wheels out HDs & I don't trust other buggers to work on my vehicles anyway. The rear wheel is a right sod to get back in, with two spaces, the calliper carrier & a the ABS sensor to hold in place while you push the axle through. The biggest challenge is getting all the bits in as there never seems room.

Yes, I need to mow the path, no I probably won't bother  :whatever:

CBR is the same, juggling the caliper hanger with yer invisible third arm, then when it's on realising you should have fitted the caliper first, cos now it won't go on. :frustrated:

Looks like you have been to busy polishing the HD to get around to the path  :boogie:

Hardly, it's filthy currently. But then it's a bike & meant to get dirty.

Changed the oil and filter.
Not very exciting but still very important.

Quote from: Eric GSX1400K3 on Saturday, 06 July  2024, 09:44 PMFitted my new TPS (Webike sourced, in genuine suzuki box).  Old one is the original one I'm pretty sure.  Measured 1099 ohm at the connector with bike off with throttle closed, about 4200 ohm wot.  Fitted new, set at 1100 ohm on the dot. Fired her up, seemed to idle a bit better. Ran it up to temp, idle sat at rock solid 1100 rpm.  Revved clean to 8500rpm (the missus even came out to check all was ok).

Too wet to ride tonight, might take it out tomorrow, I hope the low end jerkiness is gone.  Kept the old one just in case.

Took the 1400 to work today, was about 8deg C as I left. Bike started easily as always and the STVA worked as it should, idle at about 2100rpm cold, then dropping down steadily as the engine temp came up.  Slow speed through my local estate, low speed behavior was better, not snatchy or hesitant at part throttle.  Entering the freeway, where I usually stay in 3rd down the lh sweeping on ramp and let it wind out to 6500_7000rpm for the merge, I usually get a hiccup at around 40000-5200rpm. Nothing today, just linear power and smooth revs, and the glorious Akra exhaust note. So pretty happy with that, yet to see if or how the mileage improves, but I'd call that a win.  I've now replaced both STPS and TPS, the originals lasting about 20years, not bad at all.  If I don't have any issues with the new ones, I may strip the old ones and see what's going on inside.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Yesterday & today I've been poking the Hornet with soldering irons & things.

A couple of years ago when it blew a reg/rec I got a USB thingy with voltmeter included to fit to it, I've finally done it. Took a switched feed off the flasher unit (as it's under the seat) to trigger a relay & that powers the voltmeter/USB thing & now the heated grips too. I much prefer everything switched with the key than having to turn half a dozen things one & off. Had to make a bracket for the USB thing too, it's mounted to the instrument's fittings so solid enough in a spare corner of the cockpit, there's an allegedly waterproof cover on the USB ports in the pic.

Replaced the main fuel hose to the carbs too as it split taking the tank off, which seemed a good hint it needed doing. Then I polished the exhaust up & painted the foot controls where they'd started to rust again. Tomorrow if the weather behaves I'll wash n wax it.

Daft really, I've had these bits ages & never bothered. But now it's due to go out on long term loan Friday I've finally sorted it all out.

Hornet USB Volts (600 x 450).jpg

Before anyone says 12.1v is a bit low, that's with the headlight on & heated grips on full as I was checking everything worked at the end of the job. Sits nicely at 13.5v-14.4v depending on how much stuff you switch on when running.

TBH no.

Life is just a way of suffering until you're lucky enough to die. That's all it's ever been & the only good news is I'm over halfway to the end now.

Life is tough Hooli. About all ive got to say about it.They say tough times make you stronger, all it does to me is give me sleepless nights. Im a worrier not a warrior.Doing stuff, like you do, thats the way to be proud, feel good, knowing your doing simple shit that others think amazing. You dont have to be a genius to be clever. Keep at it .
