I've thought about doing that as well, just can't bring myself to take a hacksaw to it though. Happy with it as is (standard).
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I have no issue with cleaning my bikes. Sometimes i can't ride so time to clean  :)

Irish in Oz

They go faster with a cut down rear guard.

Your bike, your call. I just can't stand the modern tend of not selling you the whole bike, where the bodywork doesn't reach the back of the tyre, so cutting the guard down on a 14 makes it look like that to me.

fare comment, but to me the mudguard looks like an afterthought and it takes away the shape of the tail unit. as to selling a modified bike (of which ive sold a few) the buyer is always happy with the look or they wouldn't buy it, if they want a standard bike then theirs always some about.

Ok, as to the above post, here's a challenge for the UK guys that have time on their hands, find out if a 14 gets a better price (in general) with the original rear guard or without.

That'll keep someone busy for a few hours . . .

From looking over the years @KiwiCol , dealers much prefer bikes as standard as possible and give better prices for same, whereas on the private market it's anyone's choice.

From what I've seen of late, those advertised by dealers which are in pretty much standard form seem to have higher prices. Now - whether they actually SELL at that price - who knows - but as the 14 starts to approach getting on to be a classis, then the more standard they are, the more sought after they should be, as classics invariably are in standard trim. On the private market, again, some eye-watering prices are being asked, again, whether they sell at, or anywhere near that price is another matter.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

If you want a classic and resale price is your goal, go for it. If you just want a great bike that suits you, do whatever. Last thing on my list is the selling price. When time comes for mine to go, will be a sad day, probably only be a health reason. If someone came along and wanted to continue my ideas etc.id let them have it for whatever. Has given me more than a final sale price.

Nic

Only had mine for 3 years but what would you replace it with. I'd just like better roads.

Personally, I enjoy working on my bike and changing it to be my vision as much as I do riding it, it's always been that way for me be it car or bike.
I get what's being said about modern bikes and the short stubby tail, looks hideous, just compare he old and new Katana. As for standard bikes being worth more, yup probably, I just don't care, my bike,my way, don't like my mods, seriously I don't care.
I've had the same conversations on the xjroc and the stoc  :cheesy:
