spent the afternoon cutting down the ugly standard mudguard, ain't got the cash for an undertray (yet) so out with the hacksaw. took the whole thing off as it was pretty dusty for a good clean up. still has the tool kit recess, its where i drilled for the winkers too.  ;)
looks better to me.

Hooli

Shame, they look much better with it still there.

A few lads have done this in the past but eventually wanted to back to standard (which I think looks better) and now cant get new ones as they've all been sold to replace cut up ones.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

don't worry, i won't be fitting a standard one in my ownership  ;)

Mines already been hacked off near the bottom before my ownership so a full undertray will be fitted at some point.
Question for those in the know however, do they all need cutting into the tool tray, and are any better than others.

as far as I know of the ones available you have to cut the bottom off the tool tray.

That's a shame, looks like the dremel will come in handy

The Ermax undertray can be fitted without needing to cut into the tool tray, I have done it on a previous bike in the past, as did many others from the old ORG. As already mentioned above they seem to be more desirable with the full mudguard, rather than cutting a good one down I would look to buy one that has already been cut and keep the original, but I don't mind the standard look at all these days

Fitting an undertray (it happens to be an Ermax, given it was my K7) is detailed here https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=266.0

(And no, you don't need to cut into the tool tray area)
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I used to cut a few down, I always cut them level with the bottom of the plate though.

Never bother now. Unless I buy a bike with it done I leave them alone. The 4 that I'm using most all have long guards, even the GSXR tail swap on my other Busa has a stock guard.

Each to their own.

It does make me smile to see some UK bikes with fender eliminators and a number plates like a barn door though...  :rofl2:

That link is showing the tool tray (box) cut away  :confused1:

On my old 14 it was butchered.. So much so that the underseat area got soaked in wet weather.
I was lucky in that I could get a new guard/tool tray and convert it back to standard..
The most common comments I get at bike meets is "How nice to see it unmolested and lacking after market bling"!!
I do point out that technically the twin silencers were never put on the later models..
But htey usually reply "Yeah but its standard Suzuki" (which is the reason I bought this particular bike).

Actually thinking on it, one dud lose a tad of the tool tray area on the original guard which was "replaced" by the Ermax undertray being fitted (it was some 14 years ago I did that mod is my excuse 🤣)

I cut my guard off, level with number plate. No regrets, i like it.

Mate it's your bike & your choice. Be prepared to clean a lot more of your bike as there will be crap everywhere from rear tyre. Just my two cents worth 🥴
