I fitted the oil cooler pipes kindly supplied by @seth  today, I think I've discovered the difference in the early & late part numbers (now all superseded to the late ones). The groove for the O-ring where they fit to the block at the bottom is deeper so needs a thicker O-ring, my originals (that still worked on the old pipes) didn't even reach the top of the groove on the new ones. I've replaced all the allen bolts at the block joint too, as they'd stuck & I destroyed the heads getting them off. As a socket head is a daft idea right behind the front wheel & I only had normal bolts around, I cut down four normal bolts to the right length & used them.

Then I looked for the misfire & found no2 plug cap had fallen off, that'd do it!

Finally I took it out for a short test run to buy some horns ready for the MOT in April as neither of mine work, some how got distracted & did 100 miles. Which if nowt else has proved the oil temp sensor I fitted about xmas time has cured it's drinking problem. I had only been getting 45-47miles before the first block went on the fuel gauge, I got 70miles today which is about what it used to do in the old days.

Well done Hooli, who'd of thought an oil temperature sensor would affect MPG, but there ya go.  ECU must have been thinking it's cold all the time & running rich.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Exactly @KiwiCol when I compared readings to the manual & a working bike mine thought it was about -30c at freezing point. (1,100KOhms rather than about 100 KOhms). Explains why trashed hard enough in temps of about 35c & the MPG improved when it finally realised it was warm.

seth

Glad they fitted ok.
handy to know there is a difference.
Strange how a faulty oil temp reading can send so much off with the fueling.
Horns are something I don't have spare. Lol
Glad the bikes fixed
Beers on you
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Good on you Hooli getting all that fixed  :onya:
Where does the oil temp sensor live ? My bike hasn't missed a beat for ages but l know one day it will again. Perhaps something l need to keep in mind.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

It's the one in the middle of the engine, behind the barrels. The wires come to the RH side, go up the frame & have a multiplug on top of the airbox with two wires.

grog

Well thought out Hooli👍 Might check mine, used to get over 100ks b4 first fuel block went, lately 80 to 90.

Do you know, I didn't even look on fleabay. I've already got two cheap horns though but cheers. They get used about three times a year so I don't care how they sound. That's my pre-MOT test, the MOT & probably once in a group ride to get someone's attention.

Oh, another 150 miles of essential testing done today. It's still working. I'll fit the new horns at some point in March.

UK NEWSFLASH !!
Those indulging in excessive essential testing will now qualify for the new Chinese anal covid test.

A local rider here in North Wales went out for a short bimble yesterday afternoon & got stopped by the Police, fined £60 for breaking lockdown rules!

DP1400

According to the governments own rulings, riding a motorcycle during lockdown, (other than to a `beauty spot`!!), is not an offence. Likewise, driving a car isn`t either. The rider could have been going shopping etc. for example. On that basis, i`d argue that he/she has very good grounds for appeal against the fine.

Shame the Welsh police don`t have real policing issues to deal with. :furious:

Welsh plod have always been a word not allowed on this forum to bikes though. Plus both lots of parish councilors pretending to run devolved countries are power mad loons making more stupid laws than we've got in England so they can pretend they are doing more to help while making things worse.

The local constabulary have improved over the last five years or so, the previous zero tolerance mindset even for minor issues seems to have been relaxed (under normal circumstances) and they even stop and chat to groups of bikers at local meets again like they used to in the 80's & 90's, no doubt gathering info  :embarrassed:

Could'nt agree more regarding welsh parliament though, clueless bafoons springs to mind & I dont think Drakeford has realised that there is a North Wales as everything seems to always be about South Wales - no offence to our SW menbers!
