I have a tripod & an old manual shutter release, which you can hold open (of course) for time lapse shots of the stars moving across the sky etc.

Can you even still buy film?

I've seen a few of the time lapse night sky shots and they do look good..Another thing for me to try!
I guess you can still buy film, but I bet it's expensive...And getting it processed if you don't DIY.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

Only did B/W, which in this case (Notty) means Black & White.  :rofl2:

Just done a quick Google...
36 exp 100asa Kodak film £7.99
Develope and print 6x4 above roll £5.99...So not cheap!!
Oh, and to process b&w is even more expensive at £10.95 for a 36 exp roll.

Phew, why would ya?  Digital has come a long way & it's instant.  Now my interest is tweaked again, may look at getting a DSLR to play with as another interest when I retire - while off yet though.
Mind you, do I need another interest?  I've got the GSX, the boat, the quads, cooking / catering & the caravan / camping, not to mention beer taster!!     I'll have to live to 120 to get the most out of that lot now.  Haven't got time to do pictures too?  :whatever:

I also got into photography using film. Had all the gear. Canon was my choice which carried over to digital age. Have two nice Canon digital. Never use them, phone is too easy. Would be much easier today, using good stuff. Used to hate waiting for processing. New Samsung phone has a mighty camera. Pity im an Apple person.

Having a wee look at dslr's  & lenses at the mo, don't seem too bad really. Wouldn't want to spend $5k on one or anything, can't see I'd get the use out of those.  Under a grand & you can get quite a decent camera & some gear.

I can highly recommend the Nikon D3400 DSLR..Picked mine up new with lens for £360 :onya: 24Mega Pixel when shooting at highest resolution.
Talking of phone cameras, my Microsoft Lumia 950 has a superb 16Mp camera. Get some great results with it.

Another feature I like playing with is "Selective Colour" You have the option to select up to 3 colours and it will pick the selected colours out in the shot. Everything else will be in black and white...
The GSX I selected blue. The Bandit I selected red, and the flowers, Red, blue and green.
I've had to reduce the resolution to post on here as the files were about 11Mb each and the forum software doesn't like it.

That's a very cool feature. Like it.  The D3400 with the 18-55 is about $690 here. Not stupid money at all.   Huh!  I've got a Lumia 830!

I'm just about to sell my DSLR - its a great camera (Sony A77) and I have some cracking lenses for it, but by the time you assemble it all and carry it around - especially when touring - it gets to be a big bulky package - in fact I have a proper Lowepro rucksack which doesn't take long to fill time you get camera, 400mm lens and a couple of others to take with you.

Before I went To Australia last year, I decided I wasn't going to take my DSLR with lenses, so bought a Sony Cyber shot RX10 III which has a 24-600 lens and 1" CMOS sensor as standard. Not so much lighter than my A77 but its just slightly smaller in size - and has the lens in-built as well. On full shots I'm giving away 4 megapixels (the RX10 has 20megapixels, my A77 has 24) but to be honest for normal snaps, its really quite difficult to spot the difference in quality. It's almost as good for fast moving objects as well  but there the A77 with 400mm lens has the edge (I used to take a lot of motorsport but not so much now, so don't need that sort of detail).

At just over £1000 for the RX10, it wasn't cheap, but compared to what my DSLR with changeable lenses cost (upwards of £2,500 when new with the 400mm Sony lens), its a bit of a no-brainer. I've kept both for the last year, but find myself picking up for the RX10 more and more these days for its versatility, size and weight - so am selling my complete DSLR kit and keeping the RX10 as the RX10 does everything I want it to and everything I could do with my A77 (motorsport shots not quite so detailed excepted)

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

That last pic looking over the water, it's almost like being there in person.

Had a look at the link too Dave, very impressive piece of kit.
