I've had this happen using an optimate, took the battery out before start of season to see the levels way down, makes you wonder about the sealed batteries...

I have had good experience with several black Yuasa and I do not experiment with other brands

+1. I'm a Yuasa man through and through also.

We use the brand extensively for large scale control system critical DC supplies in my professional life. I'm 27 years in and am yet to see an unexpected failure.

I so wish that was true.   :coffeescreen:

Now then Boys, I've had to go out to the garage to console the old girl, and to tell her that her controls are perfectly fine, and to ignore the naughty men takin the piss..

In my experience with Lead-Acid batteries, you always check the charge and electrolyte level before putting into service, Even with sealed ones you can usually get the caps off for a visual check.

Top off with demineralised / distilled water to correct level, then put it on charge for a number of hours, let it rest, check charge again.

God knows how long they've been sitting on the shelf as "new" before coming home with you.

I've had a few Yuasa's, good quality batteries, never had an issue with them.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I remember my brother having one, back in the seventies and loving it.  :onya:

After the debacle a few days back when I managed to unexpectedly, get the 14 started and melted the wires on one, of the optimisers.  :whistling:  :embarrassed:

Bought some new connectors, as I had run out and repaired the damage.  :clapping:

Don't know if you guys know about these connectors that I bought but I didn't.  :smitten:

Solder inside the connector, simply apply heat and hey presto, solid connection and better still, the tube is heat shrink, so it's waterproofed all in one go. Awesome.   :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :onya:

Hooli

I've not seen those before, they do look handy.

Mr Gee

Certainly are. No more screw connectors or crimping and then having to waterproof the connection, it's all done in one go and being soldered, it's not, coming apart. Brilliant.   :worshippy:

Amazon AU sells them.

Those connectors are awesome, I use them all the time.  Ideally a radiant heat source works best (like a hair dryer), but sometimes due to access, you need to use direct heat (flame).

Had to re-read the thread to understand what you meant by "optimiser", now i understand it was the cable on one of your battery chargers.
