Quote from: lurch on Sunday, 23 November  2025, 11:23 AMHad to road test the new jacket. Started with a quick 60km loop on the wife's little Scrambler. My back was feeling fine still when I got home so I decided to wheel the big girl out. Only 25km or so but that's the first time it's been out since mid-March. She ran like a top.

Shame, you are on the other side of the world. A meet with you, me and my mate, would make a rare photo opportunity.

Today I took the bike for a run down to the Fox River market & back. Made it home just as the rain began, perfect timing. The bike is running great, the setup is how I want it & I've got power to the camera & phone so I'm not relying on a battery for them, they charge & record as I ride.
The Sykik tire pressure monitoring system I fitted works great too. It shows you tire pressure and temp for front & back, I find it real handy to be able to glance at a display & know if the tires are warm yet & what the pressure is.  The Triumph version for the rocket is about $775, think the Sykik cost me less than $200 landed. Another disadvantage of the Triumph one is it's internal, so to fit them, the tire has to come off, to change a battery, the tire has to come off, not so with the Sykik. Last downfall of the Triumph ones is I'd have to cycle through the displays to find the pressure, dunno if they do temp as well.

All in all, a happy rider.

I've gotten into the habit of checking my tyre pressures on both bikes a lot more regularly.
I bought a tyre puncture repair kit, including a small air compressor that doubles as a jump starter. It's lightweight and has a large led display 👍

My BMW monitors pressure but not temperature. I can usually assess the tyres preparedness for grip by the way the bike moves once cornering. 🙏

On TV today, re accidents.....30% of drivers have never checked their tyre pressures ever:shocked:

In an accident, where the lad died, police reported his Car tyres were less than 50% inflated all round.

Think Grog called me Inspector Gadget once cos of all the bits I have.  I like information, on the bike & the route I'm doing. The camera records my ride, sometime I keep sections of the recording, other times not.  If I've mucked up a corner or something, I can go back & look at what I did & how to fix it. Also good as a dash cam for wayward cages, it doesn't record my speedo though, shame, yeah right!

I have a puncture repair kit & a mini compressor that also doubles as a jump starter, torch & USB powerbank.  Same digital gauge & it stops at the pressure you set it to.  Probably the same one as you have Chris.  It's small enough it fits in the tail pack bag behind me.  Another great piece of kit.

Just looking at the front tire, maybe I'm going to have to put a new one on there before the 10 day February North Island roady.

Yeah, got 1 sitting in the shed, ready to be fitted when needed.   Done the rear a while back.

Avon stopped production a while back, then Dunlop brought them & now Cobra Chromes are being made by Dunlop - apparently.   I know there was a real shortage of Chromes at one stage, so I brought a new set whilst still around, they were bloody dear then too.  I haven't heard of new stock showing up anywhere yet, but then again, I'm not looking either.   Might go looking at NZ sites & see if anyone has them in stock, just for a nosey.

I looked, nowt around, not even other brands in the sizes of the Rocket. Some had prices but no availability. I'll be good for another year or so yet, so no worries.

Dold Industries (actually where I got my last 2 from): Front Chrome $478 + shipping,   Rear Chrome $592 + shipping.  I'll see what emerges between now & needing them.

Knew I had a few hours of log splitting ahead of me, with weather due to pack in later in the day, so set off from home at 6:00 am to do some of my favourite local ride...out to Apiti and back. It's only 80kms total, but has countless corners (sweepers to hairpins)and ups and downs.

A nippy 9C for much of it, but scenery lovely and I saw only two vehicles during the ride.

A highlight was pootling in second gear through a village, following a deer for 1/2km until it headed back into the bush.
There's always room in the world for a bit more tolerance and kindness.

Headed off in bright sunshine to see Dad in Cambridge, took some back roads along Lake Karapiro then over the Karapiro Dam. Lunch in Cambridge then it pissed down so stayed put and had another coffee. Through Matamata and back over the Kaimais to home. Missed all the rain, kept the bride dry, happy wife !!  Good day out on the scoota.
