A question for those that know, what shock is this in the pic?  Is it some sort of upgrade to the standard shocks?

Looks like maybe an XJR1300 shock? I've heard of people fitting these

grog

Yeah, so called ohlins on xjr

KiwiCol

Would they be considered an upgrade or about the same as std?

No first hand experience Col but Yamaha Ohlins never got good reviews for lasting or quality. Showas on 14 are good, last well, work well and can be serviced.Just pre load adjuster problems annoying for some.Ive searched everywhere for instructions to make threaded collar for them, had all dimensions etc.Old org i guess, gone forever.

If they are the basic XJR 'Ohlins' with just three preload adjustments then they are shorter, too soft & worse than standard. I know as I had them on mine for years (they were fitted when I got it). They'd be good for a small, light lass who needed to lower her 14 a bit. But I always ran them at max preload & they were still too soft even riding solo & I'm only about 14 stone.

There was also a fully adjustable proper Ohlin on XJRs, I assume they'd be a lot better but still too short.

KiwiCol

Only asking as I saw a pic of my old B/W (above) & it now has those on & wondered why, the originals were working fine.

I've heard some of the XJR shocks (the ones without, preload, compression and rebound) referred to as Fohins, Fake Ohlins.

They aren't fake, they were made by Ohlins, but that was when Yamaha owned a chunk of the company so could get away with putting some gold paint and a sticker on anything they fancied.

Folk think it looks cool to have Ohlins, but folk who know the difference know there is a huge difference between the high end and the crude cheap OEM ones.

Some time ago I was talking with a guy riding an MT01 looked awesome white with the red stripe, Ohlins suspension he said. Single shock rear end though.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

You get them Drop Bears too Tony? Here in WA the 'long toothed drop bear' is a big problem, dropping onto unsuspecting humans and causing lots of injuries
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Those are the ones with the huge padded arses right? they drop on your head, knock you out & feed on your unconscious body.

Went to the pub for a steak for lunch.
Meal was OK, sat outside in the shade.
