Pommeroy

I remember being in a bike shop when they came out and I commented to a salesperson, who seemed to think I'd perhaps want to replace my ZX6 with one, that it had fallen from the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way down, and landed on its face.
There's always room in the world for a bit more tolerance and kindness.

Id agree that they were ahead of thrir time. Just look at the current crop of KTM adventure, Ducati multistrada and Yam adventure bikes. Very similar styling in my view.

Well done Hooli, you'll start a trend i reckon
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Fitted a copy of a quadlock to the bars, worked OK with vibration mount, screen can be a little difficult to see with the tinted visor down though.
Thankfully we all like different things, and I like a modded GSX1400

You're not wrong, it'll never been an attractive bike.

Quote from: grog on Thursday, 18 September  2025, 05:42 PMThose Hondas get great reviews, bit thirsty is all.

Yeah all the reviews I've seen is heavy on fuel & top heavy so drop badly into corners.

I've no idea what bikes those reviewers were ridding as mine isn't like that. Now it's sorted it rides pretty damn well, which is almost disappointing. I needed a snotter to abuse & just use as transport but I've gone & fixed it so it rides well, it's all day comfy too. I did 230mile or so yesterday on all sorts of roads & apart from needing baffles as it's too drony at constant speed & the annoying wind noise off the screen it's great. It's not as good as 14 in anyway, but it's comfy, easy to ride, no longer has chicken strips without really trying & as I kept filling up to learn what sort of MPG it does to guessimate a range I found out it's averaged about 51-52mpg at nearly my normal 14 speeds.

I also finally visited the Birch Inn at Beck Hole, I've heard about it for years & never got around to going. Dunno if you downunders & sheep worriers ever got Heartbeat? that show about 60s plod in Yorkshire, if so it's 3.5mile from where that was filmed. The pub room is the size of a small front room & your served from a hatch by an old couple who also run the sweet shop next door that the hatch looks into. Lovely BSA outside too, I think it was an A7. Then I went to Whitby for fish n chips before coming home.

Our sheep are never worried Hooli, we put Valium in the drench.

Great pics, NZ has stunning scenery but we have little to look at that's really old. Those bridges, the stone buildings and walls amaze me how old they are.
Good to see the Rhonda has exceeded your expectations  :onya:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Don't stoke the belief Col.

Hooli your stories of restoring your "Snotter" have been very entertaining.
I'm jealous you can do all those repairs and adjustments yourself.
I'm also jealous you get a day trip to visit living history just a short ride away. Great photos and insights of your local history.

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

Great pics, yeah, we had Heartbeat the tv show here. Was good.

Good job on getting the Honda sorted.

Yeah about it being sorted... The thermostat has gone & it's now got an ABS light,it's being very needy!

I've always fixed stuff myself, I couldn't have afforded to run anything interesting if I didn't. Years ago I was seen rebuilding a LR gearbox on a workmate, in the road behind the car. So I've improved by doing it in the garden or garage now.
I couldn't imagine not having all the history around me either, but then I've never left europe & it's normal here.

Eric GSX1400K3

I wonder.....

While waiting for the new crank position sensor, I've buttoned up thr cam cover also, all nice and tidy now. Everything else is back on except the stator cover, the magnet and wiring and timing plate, as that's what is coming as a replacement.

Had a close look at the signal generator sprocket thing, and I saw this on the back face in the locating slot. Fitment on the shaft is perfect, but wondering if this indent could be affecting the actual signal pulse and hence the firing timing, unless theres a compensation for it in the ecu.  The indemt matches the hardened pin in the end of the crank.

I'll put this here as it's wire I bought for the Snotter. I just got an email asking me to review a reel of 8amp red wire, not sure what they expect people to say so I thought I'd make it more interesting than "yeah it works".

Good feedback Hooli👍I bought something, forget what, took ages to tell me nil stock. Money refunded paypal, then about a dozen messages asking feedback🤷

Having grated away the front tyre on the GTR down to the limit during my excursion on the GTR I was going to have to use my other bikes if I wanted a run out.

A bit of sunshine prompted me to pull the GSX out for a ride out to Haughmond Abbey, near Shrewsbury. It was Okay, but a bit out of sorts - I don't think bikes like being neglected and unloved at the back of the garage for a month. Although there was not a pressing need for a refuel, I decided to top it up with the premium juice - it ran a little better at speed but I still couldn't help thinking it was missing the odd beat at low revs. On the ride back, I found myself wondering how long ago it was that I last had the plus or air filter changed - there was a good chance that David Cameron was Prime Minister.

IMGP4441small.JPG

I sourced some plugs and a filter through Ebay. After dubiously eyeing up some alternatives, I stuck with NGK standard plugs, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has been satisfied with cheaper alternatives? Once the kit had arrived it wasn't a difficult job to swap everything out, even for my confesesd limited skills. It was certainly an overdue job, the old plugs' bodies were very corroded although the electrodes did not look too bad. The air filter was also past it's best, with debris from several European nations reminding me of its touring days.

A short run has suggested that it is in a better place, hopefully another hour on the road this afternoon will confirm.

At least your K3 is running....mines still on the table awaiting its new stator and crank position sensor. Hasn't run well or at all, for well over 8 weeks now...

I'm sure you'll manage to get it sorted. I'm surprised how little I've been forced to do to mine in 22 years / 44,000 miles.

In many respects they seem quite easy to work on - theres a lot of plastic and mysterious electronic things to shift before you get anywhere near the air element on the GTR and Z1000.
