Test ride today, the gearbox is really lovely now.

Roo

Got out Friday morning early for my usual ride.
Could've been much worse but I survived it. A reminder and wakeup call !

Heading towards Tokomaru nothing much on the road at 0830 am . Came across a big tractor and thought I'll just pass this mobil chicane !!
Well as I got almost along side the fucker just turned right into a farm road !
No slowing down , No indicators ,just fucking turned !!

I scrambled past on the wrong side of the road almost in a ditch.  Nothing coming from the other direction so very lucky.
All by very good luck !

In my younger days I shrugged off these near misses, but nowdays it played in my head for the rest of the day......   lucky lucky  XXXXXXXXXX

KiwiCol

Yeah, we don't bounce as well as we once used to. It'll be your extremely high skill level that got you through that.  :hat:  :onya:  :clapping:

There's no cure for stupid (him, not you).
Glad to hear you're unscathed (if a bit rattled, understandably).
There's always room in the world for a bit more tolerance and kindness.

Roo,glad youre ok. Think weve all had those moments.25 years later i still remember one in particular. 🥵

Kiwifruit

Pleased to hear you sneaked by unscathed Roo.
I understand how things like that spook us. The wife and I were left a bit  traumatized for a couple of days after coming across the accident in Cromwell recently.
On that subject and a positive from a motorcyclists point of view I found out yesterday the person that died was the front seat passenger in the car not the motorcyclist.
The American driver has been charged with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing injury.
As you found out Roo and probably not for the first time.... we remain invisible.

Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Hooli

Sounds like one of those moments that wake you up Roo. I try to avoid them these days, they aren't as fun as they were when I was young.

Cats have nine lives, I'm not sure how many a Roo gets. But I feel you just used up one.
I'm very wary of farming equipment on rural roads myself so I'm always wary of passing them regardless of road space etc.
I've seen a caravan do a similar manoeuvre with ten motorcycles preparing to pass, fortunately they pulled up just in the Nick of time but I'm sure there were some damp brown crotched leathers in that group 😳😳💩💩💩

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

Good bike news today too

My insurance have finally settled the claim from my crash in Romania in '23. I'll be getting my excess paid back this week, that's £1,550 I'd given up chasing as it'd taken so long.

My waterproof handlebar mount phone holder with wireless charging arrived. Got it fitted up & wired in behind the Aux plug by the dash.  Checked it & it's all working & charging.  I can now use my phone as my GPS & not worry about flattening the phone battery or having USB cables flapping around. You can still use the screen as normal because the outside glass is like a screen protector.

Pleased with it, cost me NZD$65 landed.  Well, actually double that cause I brought the smaller size one first & my phone doesn't fit, so had to buy another.  Anybody got a phone smaller than a S24 and want a waterproof wireless charger?  :rofl2:

Here ya go Grog.  The site is a bit confusing because they're selling several different models on the 1 listing, just make sure you order one that is the right size for your phone (most probably large) and has wireless charging as some are just a waterproof case with no charging. I circled the large the small is next to it.  First ones have no charger.

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Quote from: Hooli on Monday, 24 March  2025, 02:28 AMI think there's room with the tank off to undo the two big JIS screws at the end of the fuel rail & pull of it off the injectors, it'll empty that way & there's not much left in the injectors afterwards. I think you'd get the injectors out too if you wanted, just not sure there's room for the inner two.
I had replaced those jis screws with stainless bolts a while ago, removed the fuel rail and injectors, theres just enough room between the frame top arch and throttle bodies, bit of a wiggle to get them past.
Gave them a clean as much as possible, they seemed ok, no corrosion or bits inside i could see. Fuel rail was full of the same crap.  Put it all back together and filled the tank with new PULP.  She fired up after priming, ran a bit rough for a few seconds then settled down.  Starting seemed a bit weak though....
