Just checked again, still no turn signals but bike idles at 1100rpm, revs clean to redline, no missing, sputtering or backfires, compared to yesterday. Will check fuses again in the daylight...

That flasher / starter relay appears to be the culprit I reckon.  Have you got LED indicators? & have a LED version relay?  Do you still have the original? There's something different internally with the digital flasher relay & that's possibly crapped out.   New one isn't that dear, think they were about NZD$75 when I got one, bound to be cheaper in Aussie.

I'm not suggesting a parts cannon approach, but you say about the indicators (controlled by this relay) and no start (also partly controlled by this relay) For the small amount of coin, get a new one & put it in & see how she goes then.  I know it's running at the mo, but it could let you down at an inconvenient location next time.

Thanks KiwiCol, yes I think the relay was/is the culprit. I do have led waterfall indicators, have been on for about 4 years and no issues ever. I'll try the original relay that's sitting on the shelf, this was working fine as well when  that came out. It will make the signals flash faster, but that can't be helped until I get a new one sorted.  Here's a link to one I've found: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/195305391874?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=er6gfup5s9s&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=_M0J_4k6R_O&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I also need to check inside the tank,  but it's full of fuel atm. The hp filter was a bit dirty, I think I may have picked up some dirty fuel from the last time I filled up at a country station.

Well done Eric. I wouldn't have thought that relay would affect its running but if it has, it has🤷. I have exact same in mine, no probs but original is under seat. If you can find a workshop that sells Wynns, a bottle of their fuel cleaner is magic stuff. Its not retailed in any shops, its totally different. Im lucky as old work place is Wynns. From memory single bottle can soak up 1 litre of water.

Cheers Grog. Picture of the offending relay below.

The next one I might seal or spray with CRC before it goes in. Looks like corrosion got to it, which is weird, as we don't get much humidity here.

Also don't know how this affects fuel efficiency but will see. Will have a look for Wynn's, I have seen that in the past.  I was thinking of also adding a cup of methylated spirits (250ml) as thats just over 10% of a full tank, and metho is 95% ethanol to soak up any water.  Will run through this tank, clean hp filter again, fill up with 95 or 98 and another (smaller) dose of metho to get the last of it.

Nice fix Eric.

I believe when I'd been looking though issues the other month I found that the sidestand switch/clutch switch/kill switch circuit etc all run though that relay as well as the indicators etc.

That relay is a pitfall when changing to LED indicators. Switching to an aftermarket relay is needed and there appears to be a lot of low-quality on the market. Anyone here has a suggestion for a good one? Asking or the general public as I am not game for LED.

Cheers fellas

I just ordered these two:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/195305391874?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=er6gfup5s9s&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=_M0J_4k6R_O&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I had a look at my goto led and automotive light store: www.stedi.com.au , but they only do the std 4 pin relays.

I've had the waterfall leds for about years and the same relay, so i guess it's not too bad. Plugged the 12yo relay in and bike started, but indicators didn't work, or they flashed once, and the arrow on the dash flashed very quickly.

Added some metho to the tank, fingers crossed.

If you want to keep original relay with LED, add inline resistor to each globe.Lots of kits for sale.Plug n play.

Can't remember what make mine is , but it's working absolutely fine.  :computer_type: Just had a look on eBay, different sellers, prices ranging from £9-£33 for seven pin flasher relay.

I bought the cheap led relay and it was having contact issues originally, twisted all the pins slightly and coated with carbon grease and has Been fine for at least 5 years but like Grog carry the original in the tool kit
Horse,
Change is easy improvement somewhat more difficult :Dr Porsche

My indicators can stay standard .. less hassles 😁

I've used F10 fuel additive in every tank full on all my bikes.

Micky, how much f10 to a 14 tank full? I had a look 1l to 4000 fuel, thats tiny amount,on special Repco $12,their demos of converting water, sludge etc pretty exact same as Wynns pro range.
