Ape hanger bars would solve that space problem :coffeescreen:

At least with 15ft square foot of gizmos on the bars you're protected from the wind & don't need to fit an ugly screen  :stir:

I fitted the chinky chonky stator today.

It's not quite identical to the original. The output wires are black not yellow, longer than the original & there's a daft mistake with the clip on the multiplug. It still fitted & worked though, I wrapped the plug in tape to stop it vibrating apart as there's no clip retaining it now. If I wanted to be posh I could source the right plug & trim the wires down, but I really can't see the point as I'll be doing this again by 250k miles...

She's sitting at 13.9v from idle to about 4k rpm. I'm sure mine never passes 14v by much & the battery has been on a charger so I know it's fully charged meaning it won't need as much power to top it up.

The hardest bit of the whole job was remembering which of my extra wires to the battery was pos or neg, I really should put some red tape on the appropriate ones.

@Notty it'll look something like this but cluttered 😳😳😳

I had a little test run on my 14 to Squires today & confirmed she's happy & working again. While out a mate foolishly said she'd like to try a 14 one day, so I handed her the keys & we hassled her to she took it out. She made me follow her in case she had a problem, so off I went on a ghey Sportster with club bars...

Didn't go far but she got off saying they really don't feel heavy & are really smooth to ride. I think she liked it.

I'm sure you can un-pin the wires from the plug and swap them around so that the plug connectors work as they're supposed to. A small tipped flat bladed screw driver up into the plug on the wire side, wiggle down the tab and a gentle pull on the wire should release it with the terminal on it.

Glad to read that an aftermarket "low cost centre" generator seems to be working OK.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Nah that wouldn't work. The plug is shaped so only fits 'one way up', it's just it's got a male clip on the wrong side to where it should have the female part. These days it probably identifies as a chip pan or something...

Besides, it's the stator. The location of the three wires doesn't matter, it's just three phases that all go to the reg/rec.

Your way will be fine Hooli. Good old insulation tape. Lets hope China part works well.

Ahh, I've clicked, you mean to change the plastic part of the multiplug with the old correct one?

Yeah I could have done that, but I didn't think of it & now can't be bothered to take it apart again.

I put new front pads in the Hornet last night, it didn't need them but I'd decided the lever pressure to actually stop was way too high on the organic pads it had. It's much better now & feels like it wants to stop the way a small light bike should.

grog

I dont talk brakes, oil or tyres much. Gotta say mine now stops very good. Rebuilt all calipers, front & rear.DP pads , best shes ever been.

Hooli

Aye I know what I like & will say what they are but that's about all. I don't even know what make the new pads are as they came unlabelled (I forgot to check the back of the pad) but they work well & are nicely progressive. What more can you need? I don't do high mileage on it, so wear rate isn't a big issue for me with that bike.

Fitted my new TPS (Webike sourced, in genuine suzuki box).  Old one is the original one I'm pretty sure.  Measured 1099 ohm at the connector with bike off with throttle closed, about 4200 ohm wot.  Fitted new, set at 1100 ohm on the dot. Fired her up, seemed to idle a bit better. Ran it up to temp, idle sat at rock solid 1100 rpm.  Revved clean to 8500rpm (the missus even came out to check all was ok).

Too wet to ride tonight, might take it out tomorrow, I hope the low end jerkiness is gone.  Kept the old one just in case.
