Interesting read. Glad you got it fixed mate.

On the subject of crap in the fuel pump - Do you think this could have been avoided by running super unleaded quite regularly? Just wondering.

seth

i run super unleaded every 4th tank or so with red x in between.
it wouldn't help with this problem tho .
thats why i fitted a inline filter before the fuel pump to stop any crap reaching the pump it's self

Not sure bout the super unleaded...  The bike I purchased seemed to have being standing in a shed for a while..
The gunk was a rusty colour.  Possibly corrison on inside of the tank?

Here is pic of inside the housing where the fuel pump sits.. Also the filter  was in a horrendous state with all the rusty looking crap

mate, youve only sorted half the problem. your high pressure filter will still be blocked. read on here how to by pass and fit external filter. best thing youll ever do.

i don't think it needs a bypass of the high pressure filter if he cleaned the low pressure side and adds a inline low pressure side it should be fine .
i would wash/clean the high pressure side with plenty of carb cleaner.

Where is the high-pressure filter located??

seth

its inside the big black part of the fuel pump
its sealed so you can't remove the actual filter .
but you'll see the fuel outlet just use loads of carb cleaner to wash it out .
things should be ok after that if your tank looks like its not in the best condition internally give it a wash out with petrol and then fit a inline filter between the tank and fuel pump.

good luck
