It runs a dry sump, dunno if that has anything to do with it through.  Pic attached - for 3 Fomoto valves . . .

I heard a K1600 had 2 sump plugs, one was up inside / higher, through the external hole.

Dry sump motors are interesting.  They can run a smaller, shallow sump as its not really needed. Less windage losses from the crank not having to run through oil, means more efficient running.

With your Rocket, do you also have a separate oil tank? My BMW K1300GT runs a dry sump, there's a 4l oil tank tucked under the seat behind the 3ngine, I just drain the oul from there. No need to touch sump plug, as there's barely any oil in there.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

There must be a tank because that's what the dipstick reads, but the draining is done by undoing the 3 sump bolts (and filter)  One of the 'sump' bolts probably goes to the bottom of the tank area.

Apparently an oil change is about 400ml less than a dry fill, (haven't had to do one yet) so similar to the GSX in that there's still a decent amount hold up inside somewhere.

Changed a front tire to Mezeler Roadtec Z6. I have no experiences of that tire yet :whatever:

Doesnt seem to be any hassles with dry sumps these days.50s60s was a different story.Sumps filling standing giving hydraulic lock, then anti drain valves used, starvation as automatic valves stuck or manual were forgot to be opened. Some after oil had drained out of pump, cavitation, no pressure,no gauges or lights those days,  goodbye to a bearing somewhere.Interesting times and lots of homemade remedies.

Old Triumph twins ran dry sump and advised never draining down from the sump in case debris managed to get in, as Grog mentioned biggest problem was wet sumping due to leaky valve on the oil pump.

Hooli

Trumpets didn't tend to suffer drain down unless the oil pump was faulty, normally the ball bearing not seating properly. BSAs on the other hand with their gear driven pump did it quite a lot.

Correct Hooli.I had B34 Beezer, it was a mongrel to fill sump. Ariel, Norton, Honda4 all never a problem time i owned. Local collector, all BSA have a tag on them, no oil because same prob.

Picked up the GSX out of winter storage, cleaned it and then dropped it while taking it off the paddockstand   :embarassed:

Huge dent in my ego, barend mirror was scraped a bit as well as the clutch lever and "mushroom" on the side. Don't think I can complain about the damage but did feel like a big a**hole the whole night.

We've all done it, that's why we can laugh at everyone when it's their turn.
