New plugs (outer ones seemed loose), and pairs delete, had the Hayabusa kit as the gsx version was out of stock.
Blocked at airbox but have yet to block cylinder 3 vac hose as was running out of light, have read its possibly not necessary to block it if you leave it in place, gave a quick run and much smoother overall.

Hooli

I'd still block it. With that open No3 will be running slightly lean & taking in unfiltered air.

Just wind a screw into the end to seal it.

Phill P

I will do tomorrow, was keen to get it back together, will take it all out at some point.

Hooli

Oh gotcha now, yeah if the PAIRs valve is still in place you can leave that vac line alone. Sorry thought you meant you'd just left the pipe open to the air.

Phill P

Lol head torch for the win. Cut the vac hose to no 3 and popped a small bolt in
Much smoother lower down, also tried out my new open face lid, like it at low speed, 60 gets a bit more interesting  :)

I rode my 14 in an open face for years. It's great till it rains/hails/snows.

Quote from: Hooli on Friday, 01 November  2024, 11:04 PMMy rewound stator arrived back today!

That's much quicker than I expected as I only posted it Tuesday. I'll try & find time to fit it after work this evening & hopefully fix the charging issue on my 14. They've supplied a Honda connector for the loom as it's a higher ampage than the original, I'd asked for both halves as mine had melted last time.

If I get it done, I'll take her out for a test, then recheck voltages once back to prove the reg/rec isn't failing when hot as I've seen that on diode packs before. I once had a car that only charged for 10 mins till it warmed up, that was a fun issue to track down.

Westcountry Windings in Ipswich if anyone needs one done.

Put the back end of the bike back together tonight & then fitted the new stator. I can't see anything wrong with the old one & it tests ok, but there's full charging voltage coming through again now. Unfortunately the negative lead on my battery charger was faulty so the bike is still flat, I got it running off a jump pack to prove things work.
Fixed the charger, the neg lead had rotted & fell off the clamp when I touched it tonight. Battery is on charge for the evening & things should be back to normal with 14 in the morning.

Remember kids, chinese parts are worth what you pay for them...

Last Saturday, went out for the day with a small group after tweaking the TPS the evening before & the bike was horrible to ride, couldn't get the idle to stay steady either to high or two low & hunting, flat spot back as bad as ever and just didn't feel easy on the bike. Through the week this week, reset TPS again, checked map on PC3 and fitted a used set of coils, purchased off ebay from a K6, so 5 years younger than my originals. I went out after work this afternoon and like a different bike, wouNd the throttle open from about 40 mph and pulled like a train, I thought I was in third or fourth gear but was actually in 6th, no hesitation, idle much smoother and sounds much better at idle and started first push of the button and not second or third attempt from cold. I hope at long last the coils have sorted the hesitation problem that I have had for years, suppose it has to really as probably the last item I could replace  :clapping:

Still amazes me the attention that the bike gets, others with me on new bikes but the old 2001 GSX steals the lime light, gets sort of embarrassing when others are on £15K bikes that don't get a second look, even more pleasing tonight was one comment that the bike sounds lovely  :boogie:

Well, felt a bit sorry / guilty for the bike, so whipped the front callipers off cleaned those & the brake pads.  Degreaser on all the bobbins & spun 'em up then brake cleaner over the degreaser. Reassembled them then bit of ali fork & engine casings cleaning, checked the tire pressures then took her out for a local spin.  Front end felt so smooth under braking, happy with the work I did.
Now time for an ale, the ground's too wet to mow & besides, if Hooli doesn't have to, then neither do I!!    :happy1:

I didn't finish my 14 yesterday.

Last minute decision was made to go to Whitby goth weekend for the afternoon/early evening, So I packed a few bits onto Quinn & toddled off the 100miles north. Had a great day walking around & visiting lots of pubs. Ended up going back to one that had music & decided I'd stay all night so had a couple of beers.

Didn't have anywhere to stay though & the place is booked out months in advance. I can confirm the benches by the harbour aren't very comfy or warm to sleep on. Had a crap breakfast there as too hungry to wait for real cafes so went to Greggs, then rode home. I spent this afternoon asleep & now up making dinner before I go back to bed.

Damn good night out though & so many great costumes around. I really need to book somewhere & go properly next time.

I'll finish 14 one evening this week.

Tonight I got the clutch slave plastic cover thing back on my 14, bit of a pain with the new larger multiplug but it fits. Battery is on charge, I must remember to go turn that off before I go bed.
Then I can sling it back in the bike, fit the side panels (not bothered yet) and she's good to go for a test run.

Oh & I adjusted the chain too. I must take the LH adjuster bolt out at some point & check it. That side is rather stiff to turn every time.

Update for that...

14 is back together & it's going to work tomorrow. No front brake light switch as the switch works, so I need more space around it to get to the loom & trim it back to find a working bit of wire. No rush on that, the MOT isn't till March.
