I feel sorry for the coppers. They are under staffed and deal with the same people a lot of the time. A lot of family violence here with little positive outcome. Yet they are tasked with a quota of traffic tickets to issue. It seems to be concentrated on speed all in the name of reducing the road toll, but everyday l see many vehicles with defective headlights. Does not seem right.
Good luck having your ticket reviewed.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

For those unfortunate enough to not be British, we start with clean licences & if we 'earn' 12 points we lose it (except in 'extreme hardship' cases). Points count for 3 years.

Exactly the same here in Queensland - start with 12 and any points lost are replaced 3 years after the offence. I think it is similar in all other states except New South Wales which is 13 points & 14 if you are a proffessional driver?? Stupid that it's not common across the entire country  I have 'spent' all 12 on a couple of occassions  :whistling:

My younger brother is a retired senior copper.. he often complained about his shift being underresourced... it seems to me that we all complain about poor levels of policing mixed with bad prioritisation of policing tasks...but would we all pay more in taxes to pay for it?

Kiwifruit

I would like more spent on Policing. We are talking of spending $750m on a new prison because they tell us ours are full......reckon you could get a lot of bunk beds for $1m.
I do hear your point ARH.
Our lot waste it faster than they can colllect it.

Thats the problem these days they used to be run as public services !.... but there now run like a buisness and have targets to hit , and lets face it its a damn sight easer to pull motorists than it is to solve robbery and violent crime ...... not the polices fault !  its just politics .
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!

Kiwi, i reckon you get a lot bullets for that cash also. Thats all a lot of them are worth.

I think there is a conflict in how 'public services' are perceived and delivered.  The 'old' organisations (at least in the UK) were completely inefficient in terms of value for money and open to misuse of public cash as a consequence.  This created a feeling that 'managing' resources was the best way to tackle the problem, but they completely missed the impact of external factors in doing so (like the increasing numbers of scrotes trying to get something for nothing) and now there is a constant cry 'we need more money!'  The fact that politics then comes into play only makes it worse..

A few years ago my brother made a proposal to the powers that be the use of drones in missing person searches would bring huge benefits (fast response and search times, lower dependency on manpower deployment, reduced use of helicopter, greater effectiveness in search coverage etc etc).  He was looking for a budget of 250k to launch a pilot project to assess feasibility and guess what - he was turned down!  reason?  was not 'politically acceptable' as there might be potential for an invasion of privacy!   Really pissed him off I can tell you.   Made me wonder how many other decisions like that are taken because its not politically expedient....

My Hilux is 1 year old today.  Not doing that many K's, Average about 45k a day but still drives like new, no bills, no issues, no surprises. I'm happy with that.

Have been thinking of trading it in against a bigger 4x4 dual cab and getting a trailer but that would mean changing brands (I don't want a turbo diesel Toyota) and having more money tied up.

I'm actually liking having a cheap, reliable vehicle that I can just use and forget about.

Tony, my 2016 2.4 diesel Hilux, just over 72 th ks. the best to drive, comfy, everything just perfect. by far the best ute to sit in day after day. Then comes the motor. powerful, smooth. supposed to average around 9l/100ks, best ive got is 13.7. had new timing chain/gears at 60ks. blows copious amounts of smoke, huge amounts. has had 4 particulate filters changed under warranty. nearly 2 weeks of downtime, not earning money. particulate filters are 14 thou bucks each, now has lifetime wrty on filters, no cost ever. extra fuel use over 2 yrs just over 4g more than expected/promised. last update on motor just over 10th ks ago, have to admit its behaved in that time, no smoke. starting to hear timing chain again in mornings. i love this ute but what a stuffed up motor. maybe toyota shouldve stuck with their own, not sourced from BMW. my last Hilux, 2.7 petrol, 200th ks, not a problem.

Kiwifruit

Grog how can a filter be 14 grand ?
How much was the ute new ?
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

I'm very aware of Toyota's diesel issues, why I bought a petrol and why I won't upgrade to a diesel Toyota Hilux or Prado / Landcruiser.
