GT wear. I had just finished a 800k trip with pillion down the coast all straight road when this was taken.

That looks like normal tyre wear to me after 800km on straight roads. To get to those straight roads you need to go through a few corners & Irish does enjoy the odd bend in the road.

That's right Snapey, Thunderbolts, Oxley, Waterfall Way. Then there was the time we did the Alpine Way and I thought my front tyre would do the trip we had to get a new one at Albury, there was a ton of tread in the middle the sides where rooted, maybe I need my suspension checked on the front end too.

I was once told "you dont get performance and economy in the same sentence".
Suppose the same can be said of that tyre. Looks like the shoulders have been getting a workout at some stage.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

I think young Irish is having us on!  Yes he has just done 800k straight roads - 2 up.  What we're all taking for granted is the tyre wear pic has been caused by the 800k trip, when I'm now picking (from the above comments) this tyre wasn't new just before the latest trip, it's been well used on the bends & then done the trip. That's why the middle is fine & the edges are worn.

Correct ?
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

It's extremely bad economics to buy 100% of a tyre and only use 50% of it Col. Also well picked about the Irish gee up.

Interesting point Snapey that you talk of a Gee Up.
Have seen pictures of tyres on this forum as well as the old and have thought guys really take the bike out of the shed and ride on that tyre and then complain the bikes not handling or the tyres delaminating.......really ??
In the local bike shop the other day when a bloke I knew said Hi, he started telling me he was getting a new PR4 fitted to the rear of his Ducati Monster. He took me out the back to show me.....I said "you should stick a pair on, they ride nice." The front was rooted (which I didn't mention) yet he said "no couple of thousand K's left in the front yet." ...........must remember to ride behind him if we find ourselves on the road together.

Oh and Irish.......you just need to buy a Grooving Iron.  :stir:

It's easier with an angle grinder. When you see sparks you know you've gone deep enough. Usually good for one more ride.

Mind you, I only ever did it on the back tyre.

As I said at the beginning they wear out on the sides before the centre, that tyre had 9859 K's on it, probably about 1500 more than the ST. Please don't ask me about what percentage on straights compared to bends, but I can tell you I am slow in straights because it is to easy to get pinged by a radar.
I'm keeping that one in case I do another trip up the coast to Coffs Harbour that way I can get 100 percent use out of it ;)

Snapey, i tried to use a 1mm cut off disc to cut a car tyre off a mag, wanted it to hang a garden hose on. I gave up....it was going to rip the grinder out of my hand as the disc rubbered up !!

Also just wondered what gear are you in when you groove the rear tyre. And do you have it on its centre stand or just an old nail box ?? :whatever:

I cut my old tyres in to four pieces for secret disposal in the garbage. I use a cut off disc to get through the wire bead then bandsaw the rest. As you found out the cut off disc won't look at the rest of the tyre. For the re-grooves I used a thicker grinding wheel.
