I had similar, but not the same, looking things in my old Ducati tanks that were Tin pellets in cages  that were supposed to help with valve cushioning post leaded petrol

Hooli

Now I remember seeing those for sale, just next to the snake oil.

Decided to go a mesh cleanable LP pre tea bag filter and fitted it in a position that I can keep an eye on it just by lifting the seat. within a couple of minutes  It had already stopped a small bit of crap from reaching the tea bag

Like it .
I did this year's ago and it does save some of the crap getting to the teabag.
And easy to see.
The problem with the teabag is it's not easy/quick to get at so often gets forgotten untill there a problem with the bikes running.
When it should be checked regularly as part of routine maintenance/servicing.
only a slightly modified gsx1400

Now I have my head around it I have ordered the recommended filter and will do the HP bypass, I'm pretty sure it will sit in front of the LP one I just did, but will test fit for room first
