@Hooli i'd be tempted to get it serviced if you're not sure of the history of the donor motorcycle 👍

That is logical, but at that point I might as well send my broken one off for repair. The bike is a winter hack so doesn't need to be perfect, as long as it works it'll do.

I fitted it yesterday & took a test run, all good. Surprisingly easy too, I expected the bolts to be seized in the bushes at each end. But they weren't even mucky or sticky.

I used a variation of the axle stand technique. I put the bike on my bike lift, with the front wheel in the stand to support it. Then lifted the back with a paddock stand (the front wheel stand stops the bike moving back as I do it), put the axle stands under solid bits I could find & took the paddock stand away. I had to remove the wheel too & roll it back 4" or so to get room to the remove the shock, but it was a doddle.

Just ordered a sump stud kit for wifes Mazda. Studs allen key in, fit sump then nuts. Doesnt sound a fun job, just needs doing. No gasket just RTV. My arms will be worn out that day fitting.

Loctite on the studs Grog? Can you get an aftermarket gasket? Be easier than sealant.  My corolla sportivo used sealant on the joint between block, sump and timing chain cover, leaked like a siv, toyota provided a gasket as a factory solution, bit of work to get to, but worth the effort.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

No gskt available Eric, loctite studs👍 i have best rtv, will work. Trick with rtv is tiny track of it, think toyota had class action on 86, subaru motor, too much and got inside blocked oil galleries.

Yesterday I hopped on the bike and went to lunch in Whangamata. Group of former bike racers many of them very successful. Humbling to be in such esteemed company. Barry Briggs, Hugh Anderson,
Graeme Crosby to name a few. Lots of guys I started watching when I was around 15. Good guys that raced each other hard still giving each other a wind up. Fabulous afternoon had by all.
95 kms each way to and from home.  Some nice compliments paid to the 14. Along the lines of good bike those things, had one wish I hadn't sold it.
Whangamata is on the eastern side of the Coromandel. The land is sodden, water pouring out and down the road. You could see where slips had been cleared away. You can make out where the road winds its way down the hill. Awesome scenery and so green. It's usually brown by this time of year.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Had similar happen to me, met up with a load of guys at Hickstead north of brighton from the xjroc, at the same time a group of kawasaki vn somethings (Harley looky likeys) had also rocked up, possibly all going to Brightona. One owner clock's me looking at one of the bikes and says " You really want one these", my reply  "Err no your ok"
