Yeah it is a bit loud but not to bad with Baffle in almost same as old one I'll see when I take it for a ride next if no good I will swap it back but should be fine..

Mine isn't loud riding along, just when started & sitting. Riding isn't too bad at all, but give her a handful & she speaks up . . .
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

I think it sounds great not to loud imo,
Besides some of the Harleys around would/could wake the Dead.

Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Rode to Cambridge over the Kaimai Range to visit father. Left it till 4pm to head off, been hot today so waited for it to cool down. Lots of bikes, cars and trucks about. Took a bit of a detour round some back roads to get away from the bulk of the traffic.
Home at 8.30 after a quick 200km round trip. Great way to spend a cloudless Sunday evening.

Started the caliper rebuild today. Removed the front lines and zip tied them to the handlebars above the resevoir. Undid the caliper clsmp bolts whilst still on the forks, makes it really easy rather than when off the bike, same as the bleed nipple.  Split them and removed old o rings.   Mine do have the small o ring between the halves.  Spent the remainder of the arvo cleaning one half.  Rest tomorrow.

New seal kit includes new nipples, crush washers and all o rings.

Will post more progress as I go.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Youll get there Eric. O ring between halves a mystery, some have one, some have two. No tips from me, all pretty straight fwd.

Going through some of my 1980 GSX 750/1100 part bins.

Stuff like front guard brace, front calipers, engine mounts, headlight cowl etc etc. A lot of it would probably have made the bin a few years back, but now so much of the older GSX bits comes up as "No Longer Available, Discontinued or not currently in stock" that I'm reluctant to bin anything now.

I do know to another ET being broken for spares about an hour from here, but the guy does it as a home business so nothing going cheap and he won't sell me the whole thing as a job lot.

Cheers mate, yes pretty easy.  The small o ring between the halves was pretty swollen, the main seals not too bad, the outer seals were cactus.  Cleans up nice in brake cleaner.  I found a local bloke that does soda and vapour blasting, but I don't want to repaint them, maybe next rebuild.

 Hi Eric,

I'm planning to strip my front calipers and fit new seals too, having seen some of the muck lurking in the calipers from photos on here, so for peace of mind  :onya:.

Is a piston removal tool best recommended? some of the pistons on mine push back in by hand easier than others, l have cleaned the pistons in the past, but feel splitting the calipers will make for a better job.

  Thanks in advance.

Tally

@Milts . No special tool is needed to remove pistons from the calipers, just a socket wrench and a small socket. If you look up calipers service by me, it's in the brakes chat room (page 2) there are pics and explanations on how to service your calipers. Pay attention to blue dragons pic and explanation, it shows you the socket method. Hope this helps. Tally. :onya:

Just a footnote @Milts . If and when you decide to do your calipers, crack the tension of the mounting bolts , the caliper bolts themselves and the banjo bolt whilst they are still on the bike it makes life easier when you come to take them apart . Oh! and don't forget the bleed nipple.

Several health issues, worsening arthritis, a hernia, a lazy valve in my heart etc etc (body's past it's use by date!) means putting the bike up on its rear paddock stand is starting to be a bit of a drama.

So... started using my roll on front stand. Ride the bike into it and holding the bike upright whilst I fit or remove the stand is much much easier.

I had a minor issue with the bike pushing the stand across the concrete floor, but that was easily fixed by drilling two holes into the slab so I can drop a couple of pins / bolts in when I want to use it.

There's still room to fit a front paddock stand to lift the wheel so I can clean it, check the tyre and do tyre pressure.  Using one stand over the other looks odd but actually works fine.
