Jeez they look like serious horns.

Yeah, neighbour has a herd of pedigree Texas Longhorn cattle.  The pic is at our joint fence. They are fine normally but the bull and some of the cows with calves didn't like my pup.

Neighbour the other side has about 100 cattle next to my place, but there's 3 red calves that'll be up for sale when they are weaned in the new year.  I might see how much he wants for them.

A couple of locals have Texas Longhorns here, one of the pubs has a camel, I know a couple of folk with Alpacas or Llamas, recently someone posted up on the local Facebook page "Can someone tell 'ol mate his buffalo are heading up the highway again...

There's a guy who shows up occasionally with a proper Dingo, all the other ones I've seen had a noticeable amount of domestic dog in them but this one came from out West and was rescued. Can't be registered so the owner keeps it bit low profile. I'm told there are others about.

Buffalo or Bison? Is there a difference?
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Buffalo or Bison? Is there a difference?

I'm sure there's a difference but folk here use either a term to refer to "a big f#ck-off American Cattle breed" and everyone knows what they mean.  :onya:

Buffalo v Bison story worth a look at, i only did because i had no clue.

Speedy1959

Copied and pasted cos I didnt know either...

So how do you tell the difference between buffalo and bison?
Bison have large humps at their shoulders and bigger heads than buffalo. They also have beards, as well as thick coats which they shed in the spring and early summer.
Another simple way to tell a buffalo from a bison is to look at its horns. Cape buffalo horns resemble a handlebar mustache; they have a thick, helmet-like base and curl down, then back up.
A water buffalo's horns are large, long and curved in a crescent, while a bison's horns are typically sharp and shorter than the average buffalo's.

Bison is what the male Buffalo says when he son leaves the herd.

Went to the pub in the next town last month for a feed. Older (than us) couple on the next table celebrating a birthday. Mrs congratulated them, got chatting, ended up swapping phone numbers.   They arranged for us to call in and visit them, they seemed OK, normal sort of folk, retired.

House looked OK, Residential area but a big block, at least half acre, probably bigger, pretty normal from the front. After tea and cake he took us for a tour around the back.

Holy Fark!!!  It was like "The Good Life" and then some! (But without Felicity Kendal) There were Hens, Bananas, Strawberry's, beans, Carrots, potatoes, multiple aquaponic systems , nut trees, fruit trees, compost bins, worm farms, fish in tanks, every fruit and veg I could think of and several I'd never seen. The whole place was like some very well planned and very productive allotment. Not an inch was wasted. Everywhere you looked was something edible. He said very modestly... "We don't do much shopping, I grow too much really and give a lot away".

I was really impressed.

He may be my new best friend. He's very keen to help me plan mine and was listing all the plants, seeds, cuttings etc that he has a surplus of.

Lovely old couple.  A rescue dog they don't know the age of, her home made Xmas cake,  lots of story's from their travels overseas.

Had a really nice afternoon.

Makes a change to meet such nice people.

I know they drink white wine (from the meal at the pub).  I might drop them some in for Xmas.
