Have a look at Dri Rider boots, decent quality and way cheaper than AS.

Tried work boots on bikes before, can't seem to get any feel at the gear shift and kept getting the front of the boot caught  due to the steelcap.

Hiking boots are a good idea, waterproof too and comfy to walk in.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I've got Altberg Hogg bike boots, they are a mix of the two. Paramilitary boots as used by Plod etc but modified by a cobbler who makes them for bikers as he rides too. Extra ankle support & double thickness over the toes for the gear shift are the main differences.

Cheaper, more comfy & much longer lasting than most bike boots, with the advantage of looking like boots not spray painted wellies and comfy to walk in all day, which is important to me when touring & wanting to see places.

Ive heard all the stories about steel caps on bikes, makes no sense to me. Gotta be better than most frogwits i see, singlets, thongs, shorts, mini skirt girls, Harley vests etc.
Yeah there are a bunch of dumb fuckers out there but I have to disagree with you on

Should be law to wear protection jackets.
anyone should be able to wear what they like (with the exception of helmets).,
If they fuck themselves up as a result well - Darwin award.

I just don't like to see increasing legal restrictions on every aspect of out lives.

Altberg have to be the best boots around (They have won many awards).  I have been using them since the 90's, most modern boots are made for people with fat legs so they do look just like wellies, a nice place for the rain to go.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

I couldn't help myself and purchased two new pairs today. TCX Brand.

The brown ones are quite stylish with laces and zips for ease of on/off, also waterproof. Also make me feel taller @Notty

The grey ones are full on airflow for our hot summer riding.

The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

If you tend to wear boots with laces make sure the laces are tucked well away `cause they`ll easily snag on footrests; gearchange lever or brake pedal just when you`re not ready for it - happened to me twice and I got away with it. I`ve seen three guys who weren`t so lucky in the past :whistling:

Hooli

Altbergs actually have instructions on where to tuck the laces away! Stops the movement of your trousers over them undoing the laces as well.

I just double knot all my lace ups, seems to work for me.
