Talking of bikes, this turned up this evening. I'm getting old so thought I'd try a slow one.

Hooli

It's a mate's & I'm doing a few jobs on it for her to it out & make it ride properly. Currently it doesn't like to corner as much as it should & tends to cut out on downshifts if the revs are too low.

Plans are -

Change fork oil
Grease steering bearings
Check pick up filter in tank
Balance the throttles
Check the vacuum pipes to the MAP sensor
Check the valve clearances
Strip & clean the clutch slave cylinder
Grease the swingarm bearings
Grease rear shock pivots

All by Thursday, as she's using it for Stormin' the Castle on Friday.

@Hooli may as well set up the TPS & STPS if you are ballancing the TB's - and no borrowing or swaping any parts with yours

I always do that as part of the job tbh.

Swapping parts? no idea what you mean.... who'd even think of things like that?

I had a lazy day & didn't get started on this slower 14 till lunchtime today. So it's not finished yet, but so far I've done -

New steering bearings, the top one was so rough it was like clicking a ratchet going around. No wonder it didn't like corners!
New fork oil
Teabag cleaned
TBs balanced after checking the vacuum pipes were ok
Slave stripped, cleaned & rebuilt

Tomorrow is swingarm bearings & check the valve clearances. It should be good for another 15 years or so then as I think it's a K5.

Well done Hooli. 👍 While back i fitted led indicators. Bought the led relay etc, no probs, just thought they dont quite suit. Wanted gsxr indicators but stupid prices. Today wandered into a new bike apparel shop. Full set of gsxr copies, halogen globes, $39. Will fit them up soon, refit original relay. Happy result.

I delivered this back today, I'd forgotten how good a sorted 14 is to ride. It's reminded me to get mine fixed.

She might be taking it out for a quick run tonight, so if I get a report back that she's happy with it I'll be happy.

Hooli

Just got a text that says 'wow, wow and wow! It's transformed it and it's amazing now'.

I think she's happy with it  :hat:

Well done Hooli, plus you get the good feeling of helping out a mate.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Fitted a set of Michelin Road 5's. Getting the bike set up for a long weekend trip to Germany.

I got my clock plastics off @seth yesterday was good to see ya again mate.
I've now got one less excuse to sort my 14 out.

I just need to find that link to the glue for the inner plastics again before I can sort the clocks.

Hooli

I've been keeping an eye out for the bits I need to sort my 14 & a breakers finally got a complete headlight in near me, so I'm picking it up in the morning. £130+vat is steep, but they are a bugger to find so worth paying. I got the clock plastics off a mate at the rally last weekend, just awaiting the glue that sticks the inner ones & they can be rebuilt.

I rolled it out the garage tonight & got the luggage off, along with swapping the new (2nd hand but correct) rear shocks on. I'm not convinced they are totally healthy as the preload only winds up to four & should go to eight. I'll have to check up on that as they work fine till that point & both are equal. Swapping the shocks too ages as one of the metal sleeves had seized on the bolt so I was knelt with a hacksaw blade in molegrips cutting the bolt twice to get it apart.

I stripped most of the remains of the headlight off too & found some damaged wiring where it was smashed back into the mounting bolts. Easy enough to fix, just more damage I didn't know about. Once the headlight remains are off I can remove the existing clocks ready to repair them next week.

No pics as it started to hammer down with rain & I was more interested in putting everything away again before I got utterly soaked. I'll still need to go through the loom with a multimeter to find the running fault, but at least some progress has been made.

Those shocks are not far off @Hooli they go up to a maximum of five rings, I would say that they may have been leaking at some point and have been filled with a heavier oil to get over the leak, it can be a tw@t to get the reservoir totally full due to air and the pressure needed to force the oil in, the result being they don't adjust up fully but four rings is pretty good the same as mine - generally 3 rings is very hard any way, certainly good enough for two up riding or carrying luggage, i have mine set at about 1.5 rings for lone riding now & i'm 17 stone (ish)  :onya:

Hooli

Thanks.

I had five rings in my head for the MCN settings, I guess I must have been thinking of the fronts?

I think you are spot on there, I have tried the MCN settings and they were to hard for me on the road, the bike didn't want to hold a line through bends and made my teeth rattle on our crap road surfaces in a straight line,  I think I am down to 2 rings on the front now and it seems pretty good - but we and bikes all differ
