Added a Voltmeter 🤗 Checked it out on my calibrated precision bench top Voltmeter and it reads -1% low i.e. 120mV low when it displays +12.0V the actual voltage is +11.880V so not too bad for a very cheap device £6.86 inclusive of postage via eBay. Ordered May 20th and arrived 8 days later from China/HK. Attached to bike via sticky pad and it looks neat and tidy in my opinion. It also comes with a metal bracket that I didn't use. Wired it to only display once the sidelight and day time running lights of my indicators are on. That way I know the lights are switched on when riding in daylight. Can never tell looking at clocks and often forget to switch them on. Hopefully this will provide an easy reminder my lights are off if it doesn't display a voltage. Obviously most importantly also let's you know if the battery is okay and charging. eBay item number below if anyone is interested.

In case anyone is interested.  Have a look at this wiring diagram if you want to wire up your 2 wire voltmeter so that it reads the actual voltage of your battery rather than the voltage that is going through the wiring system of the bike.  Yes - they are different.

This wiring diagram will show the volts of the battery before you start the bike and afterwards will show the charging voltage as you are riding.

I've wired my voltmeter up like this, no problems at all. For a switched power wire, you can either wire it to the tail light wiring in the tail of the bike or there are several wires in the headlight you can wire to. There are also several earth wires in the wiring loom inside the headlight as well that can be used. Then just use a separate wire for the relay earth.

There is enough room down the left side of the bike near the battery to fit extra wiring, a small relay and inline fuse if you keep it short and neat.

Very nice.  :hat: :hat:

I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions. He had a real charisma about him and not up himself at all.  :onya:

So - bad news today. Out on the country lanes with a few mates and we came to a junction where the road continued around a blind turning to the left and we wanted to turn right. Immediately before I arrived at the junction (I was leading) a group of cyclists came around the corner on my side of the road, making me brake quite hard, and as I was by then almost on the junction, I had just started to move cautiously out to turn right (indicator going), when wham, one of the following bikes hadn't been paying attention and rode straight into the back of me, pushing me forwards and sideways straight into a 5' deep ditch with me under the bike.

Loads of claret over my left leg (I had ruptured a blood vessel apparently), after they carted me off to hospital, one of the local farmers came around with a fork lift and some straps and kindly extracted my bike from its laying down in the ditch. Came back from the hospital to find BMW Assist still had not arrived, so a few further calls and got my bike recovered to the local BMW dealers for assessment next week.

Initially looking at it, the rear mudsling is broken (where I was rammed), and the forks are mis-aligned. Not sure if they are just twisted in the yokes or bent (fortunately it rained last night so whilst the bike went head first into the ditch hitting the front wheel first before lying on its side with me under it). Other than that, a few minor scratches on the beak and a fair few clods of mud. I'll find out next week what's up in the steering area once BMW have assessed it.

Glad I had the dashcam on, have looked at the video and in any case the guy who whacked me has admitted all.

So not a good day, left leg bandaged from the knee down, bike damaged. But at least I walked away (well figuratively).
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Geez, thats a real blow Dave. It is lucky you weren't injured to a greater extent,  still, our old bodies take a bit longer to heal as well.
Get plenty of rest n pampering from Mrs Barmy, while you can.
The bike will be fixed, hope you don't get stung loosing a no claims bonus.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Dave, thats just not good. Lucky youre not too hurt. Sure is harder riding with others sometimes. Rest up Mate.

Kiwifruit

Sorry to hear that Dave, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

My greatest fear as a motorcyclist is of being rear ended.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Globalrider

I need to go somewhere I've not been but won't know until I get there!

Mick_J

That's a real bummer, hope you and your bike are back on the road soon.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

That's a bugger Dave, I know a few people I ride with I try to avoid being in front of as I'm sure they'll do this to people one day.

On the brightside a GS doesn't look any worse after crashing  :whistling:
