Playing devil's advocate here, why would the manual only advise every 3 changes, in their eyes there must be a benefit? It wouldn't just be financial as manufacture's don't work that way.

I'm not sure I've seen opinion on here go against the manufacurer before so it's peaked my curiosity!

Cheers

It's not really going against the manufacturer. Suzuki's service schedule (like any vehicle) is probably designed to be a compromise between preserving your bike and keeping maintenance costs down. There's nothing stopping you doing more than the manufacturer recommends.

It doesn't need fully synthetic, but I found some for the same price as semi so why not? It doesn't need a filter change every time, but they are cheap so again why not?

In fact there's a bunch of advice on here that isn't quite what Suzuki specified. Removing the PAIRS, fitting the clutch slave seal off a Hayabusa, external fuel filter mod and so on.

Hooli

Don't forget Suzuki don't want their bikes to last forever, they want them to last long enough for you to say 'That did well, I'll buy another one off them'.

grog

Hooli, they stuffed up on 14, mine will out last me.

Hooli

I'm trying my best to wear mine out & failing too grog.

Mister Fishfinger

Fitted my new EBC discs and pads. Too scared to try them out though, it's raining and dark here now, not the ideal time to test new brakes really.

@Mister Fishfinger
Emma has the same discs I can't fault them after 10000 still as good as new .
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Also have same disks  for last 12000k, and I'm not even thinking what they may be replaced soon. Hope for 15-20 kkm more (may be I'm to optimistic :) )

For those that are pedantic about having a used filter with their nice new clean fresh oil....

..... try not to think about how much dirty oil you have left in the engine.
Your not draining the oil cooler and there's dirty oil sat in a few other areas.

The amount of oil going into a new / rebuilt / dry motor is a lot more than your oil changes.

I like to change my filter, but having a Cyclone pipe sometimes I can't be arsed.

I don't lose any sleep over it.

Mister Fishfinger

Good advice. I try not to lose sleep over anything, although I've got a shoulder muscle that has other ideas at the moment.

Spent a happy hour giving Bertha a bath yesterday, then dropped some fuel stabiliser in the tank, hooked up the trickle charger and tucker her in for the winter.

Having seen the first (and so far only) frost recently, alongside the mess on the roads from the sugar beet harvest, its time for a bit of car driving to work in the morning.

Roll on springtime!

grog

i feel sorry for you northerners, a riding season. no such thing here, just sometimes a bit warm to ride in summer. daunting to put riding gear on, always do, doesnt worry others, they ride in shorts, thongs, t shirts. frogwits.

Having seen the first (and so far only) frost recently,

I remember seeing a frost.

I think it was in the UK, about 2004.

ARH

Temps starting to drop below 10deg now so mines all tucked up for winter now.... this year been pretty good tho, riding from 2nd week of March thru to mid November, not up to 'upside down' standards but still good in my view.  Her indoors starting to talk about Christmas now   yohoho... bahumbug!

Tony Nitrous

Nice for the next week.

Lowest predicted temp is 17 degrees C.
Highest predicted temp is 29 degrees C.

That's not too bad.
