Mister Fishfinger

Just got the MOT done on mine today. It passed, but with 2 advisories - front brake disc runout and chain rusty.

The brake discs are a bit of a disappointment, the bike only has 14K miles on it and I would have hoped for a bit more life out of them. They aren't worn down, but to be honest they are a bit grabby at low speeds.

The chain isn't a surprise. The previous owner seems to have slapped a load of random grease over an already rusty item. I've been trying to rescue it by cleaning in paraffin and applying loads of Wurth spray lube, but I'm not impressed with that stuff. I think I'll switch to gear oil, as recommended by forum gurus.

Longer term I will swap it out, but I'm not working on the bike in this heat.

Mr Fishfinger..
I use Castrol 140W gear oil and can recommend it..
Have to say in the warmer weather it does fling off a bit..
But in winter when it has the consistency of maple syrup it does not !!
1 litre was about £12.. I reckon that will last me at least 2 years !

Both eBay and Amazon sell it..
(My local car accessory shop happened to stock it.

Mister Fishfinger

Might give that a go, thanks for the tip. Not surprised it flings off in the heat. I am melting here.

@Mister Fishfinger Check your bobbins on the discs, if they've jammed up they can make the discs act slightly warped. There will be instructions on here somewhere but it's basicly soak them in brake cleaner & spin them. I Normally nip up a nut n bolt through them to spin them with.

Thanks, I did that a little while ago. Didn't make a lot of difference.

I've got a dial gauge somewhere so I will whack it on tomorrow and see how they measure up.

:boogie: :boogie: :boogie: Yes !! ... i found a set of sw motech pannier frames the ones that just unscrew off when your not using the panniers , as new with all fittings and instructions and original packaging for £125 im very very chuffed  .
They fit most of the Givi panniers so i will try and find a nice set of monokey,s to fit .
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!

Sw motech do a conversion to take other paniers too.
Also kappa are made in the same factory as givi and use exactly the same mountings .

Just back from the MOT it went srtaight through no advisories  :imrgreen: and it turned out the MOT guy had 2 14's and realy likes them , so he didn't put my warn rear brake pads on an advisory and just said change them before winter
