Finally go the bandit to run properly - had the carbs off 6 times in total - they were so gummed up that it took 3 shots in the cleaner to get them clean - even then it was running like a sore arse so much so that it was dripping fuel from carbs and leaking from overflows - missing - grey smoke

Did the compressions - all between 145 & 150 - checked valve clearances and nope they were all spot on - walked away from it on Thursday before I took a hammer to the tank

so today with a clear head I went out and went through every thing and bugger me had I not got 2 wires round the wrong way on one of the coils

Purring like a good un now - carbs all sync'd

Also did a fuel injector seal on the Mercedes - it equally put up a fight

I set my TPS as it occurred to me that I'd forgot to do it last time I sync'd the throttles. It was 1,000k rather than 1,100k so I doubt I'll notice a difference but at least it's done now.

Been down the shed for a while this morning and....

GSX14:  Check chain, check oil, tyre psi's, start and run a while. Good to go.

B-King:  Check chain, check oil,  tyre psi's, start and run a while. Good to go.

Busa:     Didn't want to start, haven't used it recently, battery is now on the trickle charger. I think I needed to look at the clutch? Can't remember.

Bandit:   Remembered the front brake master has an issue, might need a rebuild. Put the dust sheet back over it.

GSX1100:  Going to stand it down until I decide what to do with it. It's a nice old classic so I won't sell but it's not up to the rides I want to do.  Not really into riding to the cafe or bike meets anymore.

Lost a bit of enthusiasm recently. If they start ill ride them then park them back up. Haven't had anything new in a while, don't like the cold, getting up at 3.15am for work im tired and lazy on a weekend and trying to fix a house up.

EDIT: Busa now starts fine. Gave the battery a 2 hour slow charge. Yes, looks like clutch master has died, easy option is a rebuild kit, but using Busa masters on Renthals isn't ideal, they sit tipped at a poor angle. Might look for Bandit, B-King, GSX14 ones or something more suitable.

Went for a ride through the Brecon Beacons - past the numerous reservoirs  which are looking a little low
It was 8 a.m. quite cool and yep in a tiny village near Usk was a camera van -30mph limit and thats what i was doing but loads of cars coming the other way were clearly oblivious to the limit and after all it was early Sunday morning ! 150 miles later fancied a  beer but as it was only 10.30 settled for a latte shared with my friends the flies I picked up on route  :)
The older I get the better I was

Spend ~6 hours servicing my 14.

Positive: 4-pots are on, and I seems like I really love them :)
Mine 6 pots were quite OK, and I cant say I had issues with breaking power. But the pads were clattering in them, and this was annoying.
What I immediately notice, with 4-pots brake lever is "lighter" and have longer travel (I even reajust brake lever from closest position on almost max away position). This make me feel like braking is better, even I have run only 7km with new setup.

Overall - I really like this modification and in my case they looks better also :)

Negative:
Could not setup fast idle, even I had setup TP and STP position sensors as they should be. According to voltmeter - everithing is OK, but engine is not working like it should. I have issues with idle (not stable), and with fueling in total. Having dyno run, tester find out, there is not enough fuel on top end on open throttle.

I assumed it's the issue of fuel-pressure, what could be caused of HP-filter or fuel pump or presure regulator. So I bought an preasure gauge, some brass fittings and with some fuel hose and clams, build myself a fuel preasure meter.

Service manual writes it have to be 43psi or 3bar. Mine was 41psi while pump was running and immediately drops to 30psi when pump stops. Testing pressure while engine running: ~43psi on idle, and dropping to 20psi while reving the engine. THIS IS NOT GOOD!

Next step - testing fuel flow amount. According to service manual it have to me 1.2l in 30sec. Mine test result is ~0.4l in 30 sec. 3 TIMES LOWER!!!

So it's obvious - HP filter and maybe also fuel pump have to be replaced... OEM filter will cost me 210€. External would be cheaper, but I could not find any deasent filter with OK size to fit on a bike. Good filters with fast pass-throw ability have to be big...
@Andre share a link of one model, but it seems it will cost (with all hoses and time spent on engineering brackets) only little bit cheaper then OEM solution... But will be better, cause it will be serviceable.

Oh... decisions, decisions...  :confused1:

P.S. will do a topic in fueling section, about testing fuel pressure and flow.

Finally got all the bikes to the new place think I'll need a bigger garage (the old garage was massive it's very hard to downsize   :frustrated:
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

@northern it'll be the high pressure filter, I've never heard of the pump failing.

I thought I'd go out for an hour or two on my 14 today, I think I got carried away though.

I left home at 11am & at about 6pm I got to Scotland in Kielder forest...back to civilisation via Carter Bar & home for 9:45pm after 380 miles. I'll post pics when I've eaten & got them off my phone.

Oh yeah, it ticked over 119k miles today whilst doing 'ahem' an hour in triple figures down the A1M.

I'm quite sure it's the filter.
But pressure doping could be caused by old o-rong what is sealing preasure regulator inside the filter housing, or in worst case - pump valves...

Like usuall - it could be combo of different issues on 15 years old bike :)

Pitchurs!

I've just noticed the time on the Carter Bar pic, that's 163miles from home & I was unlocking the garage 2hrs 15mins after the pic. No officer, the time on my phone must be wrong.

Andre

Not been doing much to the bike this week but riding - more tomorrow :boogie:

Spent plenty of time and money to get the 14 in good condition. Enjoyed the work, but hope to give it a rest now till winter. Roads are calling!
