Ever since I was a teenager I've always had a fascination with knives and guns. Anyone else share the interest or collect?

My most recent addition was the John Nowill of Sheffield stag handled Bowie knife. I picked it up in an antique centre for £60 while away in Harrogate last month. I've done a bit of research on it since and found I got a real bargain as they retail for around £350-400 if you can find one!
You can see the sheer size of the thing when you compare it to the British commando knife in the photo...It's a beast at just over 40cm long.
I've also got a 1941 US Army machete...Unfortunately it's minus it's original scabbard/sheath. I'm even considering getting a leather one made for it at some time in the future.

I've also got a Weihrauch .22 air rifle, Walther CP88 .177 gas pistol, Webley Tempest .22 air pistol and a Mauser HSc Model 84 8mm blank firing pistol.
The Mauser doesn't get fired very often due to the noise..Mainly has a few shots fired New Years Eve of Bonfire night when there are plenty of other loud bangs going off

The underlever Weihrauch rifle in the last photo I regrettably sold many years ago..Wish I'd hung onto it now as they are quite sought after.

Thats a nice little collection there. I'm always happy when I see someone in a country that absolutely hates firearms, manage to accumulate a collection. Well done.

Here's my latest acquisition. 😁

Had all the usual air guns as a kid but was more interested in shotguns etc. all my family are farmers and several are very competitive clay shooters.

Mine are still with family members in the UK.
Some interesting ones like the H. Holland 12 bore with Damascus barrels I've mentioned before.  A neat little single barrel 410 that folds in half really small.  An hexagonal barrel muzzle loading percussion piston, a 10 gauge Marlin Super Goose, a mossberg 12 bore pump action and a few others.  Had several clay shooting guns but they were all very similar, single selective trigger, half and three quarter chokes, vented rib, auto eject, the standard formula.

Edit: There was also a Winchester Auto 12 bore with various interchangeable thread in chokes, and a side by side game gun with hammers that if I remember right also had Damascus barrels.

Edit-edit. More in line with this thread I do have my father in laws bayonet. He was a Vietnam Veteran who hung onto a few things. I've been told its not a correct issue for Vietnam by Internet experts, but the bloke who was there with it in his hand would have disagreed.

I've just moved house so all my swords, knives and armour are still packed away.

Probably worth between $10 to $20, maybe less due to poor condition.
Worth a lot more to me as it was given to me by my father in law who was in Vietnam.

Collect guns?  No I only have about 6 or so. (depends if I count the ones in pieces I'm working on)
Had a collection like Taniwha's some time ago but have refined it down.

Knives? No don't collect those either - only because I can;t afford to. I do know a few blokes who make some really good knives though, so one day....

Taniwha..
Are you an apprentice American?

You have quite a collection there for "Home defence"

Must say I do like firearms.. A guy I used to know collected old Flintlock weapons that still worked..

A while back I had a shoot of a smooth bore rifle that had a hammer and percussion cap to fire the thing..
I couldn't tell you the maker but I can tell you it was a single shot that you loaded a lead ball into the end of the barrel after the gunpowder and wadding..
Anyone who tells you that you couldn't hit a person across the street with a smooth bore is bull shitting!!
We set up a 2ft square piece of plywood against a stone wall from 30 yards and I easily hit the centre of the plywood.. It shattered one of the stones in the stone wall behind !
My main memory was the amount of smoke it made and the size of the bore..

We were shooting clays at a small local village fete.

5 of us in line, you take your turns then all move up a peg, peg number 5 go's back to peg 1, then you start again.  I think I was on peg 4 when a family member passed me a muzzle loading black powder gun, every single other person had the standard over and under 12 bore.

Peg 1... "PULL!"...... BANG!

Peg 2... "PULL!"...... BANG!

Peg 3... "PULL!"...... BANG!

Me on Peg 4... "PULL".... Click.. Fffffsss....BOOOOOOOSSSSHHHH!!!!!

Every head in the place turned and stared, jaws open...  :rofl2:

Possibly my favourite clay shoot was off the back of a cruise ship from Limassol in Cyprus to Port Said in Egypt (on the way to Cairo). Great fun, beautiful setting, and made a change from muddy fields behind a local pub!
