anyone had good results with fleabay fuel pumps i see one at around 70 and seemingly the same thing for less than 30

These fuel pumps do not include the high pressure fuel filter and pressure regulator which cost nearly 200 quid at Robinsons.

Here is the link to the high pressure filter mod: http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,6105.0.html

The link to the forum post about the external fuel filter mod on our forum http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=590.0http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=590.0

There is also a low pressure fuel filter mod to help out the tea bag: http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=2212.0

While you have the pump out, this would also be a good mod to do: http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=1610.0http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=1610.0

andre ,and others, thanks will proceed based on yr advise , if i can follow the instructions, thinking on it i am now sure the internal filter ,hp not teabag ,is the culprit , i cleaned the tea bag, its possible that the internal one dried out with crud in it whilst i had the pump out to seal tank . i will try reversing the pump to see what comes out . i also understand that another 600,750 ? suzuki pump is a direct fit ,am i correct ? thanks again ........

Yep more or less, just slightly smaller in size, so you need to swap the mounting plates.  (As I recall from one of the threads)

Read all entries of this thread then decide, as it gives options

(as above though you may need to swap the base plate depending on what you decide)
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Just noticed that checking fuel pressure and fuel flow rate has not been mentioned. See the workshop manual in the download section on how to do these procedures. Should be the first thing and will give an objective pic. However, doing the mods without checking pressure/flow first does no harm as these are good mods, even if just as a preventive. Getting a new fuel pump is also a good thing. If it turns out that the old one was still ok you have a spare on hand, always good imo  :)

ok guys .pump out. all in bits, nothing broke. cleaned all . teabag clean , got a fair amount of crap, nothing big.out of high pressure filter  flushed several times and put compressor and petrol thru it .  put all back .idle seems better and holds specific rpm well , no fluctuations noted compared with previously  so off to try it soon ,back screwed right now so thats a tomorrow job ,i can never get the bitch onto centre stand !!!
whilst at it i noted area to drill for filter mod ,i will go back to that link and find the renault filter nu, i might get that here ,and the pipe, then i will ,ok or not plan that mod and bracket so i can hopefully forgetthis episode .

ajl

it seemed better , did not falter. i have seen the origional internal filter opened up ,it has a good sized filtering area, i am not confident that i will have improved things  for any length of time .and am going to do the mod .anyone able to advise a place in the uk to order the external filter similar to the one on the site ,nicely mounted using the tank mounting bolts and a ss bracket ,which is the way i intend to go, dont use fleabay and having trouble seeing anything that fits the bill correctly ,here in france

ajl

well carried out mod as directed only issue metal filter MAN F135 too big to fit under tank in front of mounting plate it was best size i could find in town so its sitting in space above battery, in plastic tool tray.NOT IDEAL ,but should allow me to prove the point.or not. filter needs to be about bog roll diameter as that fits well then it needs 2x 90 % bends so pipe dont kink.  anyone with link to good parts ? seems ok on stand will run up down road in the am ,its a bitch to push if it dies miles from home .dont know pressure flow as dont have guage but plenty press when i removed pipe to check....

ajl

mod done, bike fixed.. found filter bog roll tube size .picking up in uk next week  mann wk68 currently fitted under seat. making bracket as in plan on mod . just 2x 90 bendsto resolve, when i see filter ends ... almost forgot how to ride bike 60 mile today no drama . the origional suzuki design is,frankly stupid.
