They're not normal for us Kiwi's Dave, more Aussie as a rule.

Well let's hope this does not become a regular occurrence for you guys and that all is well in the next few hours

In the UK we all moan about the weather, but at least we don't get any of this sh#t thrown at us!
On Saturday however we did have a 4.7 earthquake with the epicentre at Neath, Swansea in South Wales!!!
It was felt over a large part of SW England!!!
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

All good here, just had some rain today, bit heavy, but nothing too bad. Westport is getting it at the mo & Kaikoura has had very heavy rain most of the day & winds tonight up to 130k.  Westport had winds gusting 120 before, & us, well, we've got 17kph, basically calm. It's coming though.

Col, keep us updated. was wondering how its going. i hate storms, cyclones etc. end result is damage, heartache and work. you do know why most cyclones sre named after women. when they arrive usually hot n wild. when they leave, usually the house n car are gone.

All good here.  :onya: Went to bed last night & the winds hadn't arrived. Had a look at the weather stats overnight & max wind here was 48kph! & 57mm rain.  Still wet & blowing, but can't see the wind causing any damage here, the flooding will though.
Westport hit 120k winds but rain only 25mm & for the coast that's a mere afternoon drizzle.
Kaikoura (my holiday area) got 96k winds but also 93mm rain! which is a lot for that area. There'll be flooding everywhere & the main road in & out (State Highway 1) is closed in both directions.
The wet & wind are set to continue today but ease off as the day progresses.  So, all in all, sounds like CHC got off pretty lightly - apart from the flooding.

@gsxbarmy , No Dave, your Whale Watch trip wouldn't have been cancelled, they'll still take you out!  Huge seas & vomit don't stop them - well, only sometimes.  Honestly, I see the whale boats going out in all sorts of weather, & I'm thinking 'you poor ba**ards' you're not used to boats & you're being taken out in that!
They are big heavy boats for sure, probably 20' high too & yet we see them disappear behind the swells!    Hope your trip is on a nice calm day. There's also Whale Flights, about the same price I'd say.    I digress, yet again!

Thanks for all your kind wishes & concern.
