First road bike was Katana 550 photo attached. My mate and I did Sydney trip for Easter. Brisbane to Sydney non stop fuel only in 12 hours before the highway circa 1979.
39 years later I just couldn't do it even on my R1200RT se BMW.

Loads of memories and they all come flooding back. Thanks guys  :worshippy: :worshippy:

Honda CB175.... great little bike until it dropped a valve at 23thou miles on the rest and be thankful....  Followed by Honda CJ250 .... Honda 400 dream (with yoshi exhaust.... cracking bike) Honda 400/4, Honda CBR600.... then a big gap... another 400/4 as a restoration project... and now the big Suzi.  To be honest.... I never really rated any of the early Suzuki's ... especially everything below 400cc.  Paint and general finish always looked poor in my eyes. Even when I bought the 14.... I was looking at a big Honda...VFR or suchlike... but have to say the 14 surpassed my expectations and now I'm completely hooked 😁

ARH, you missed out discounting small suzuki.250 hustler and 350 rebel were just amazing. Only bikes with 6 speed gearbox early70s. Never had a prob with paint/ chrome. Could rev at redline all day, start first kick. Titan and 3 cyl just followed on. Rebel won the Castrol 6 hour 1972, against all comers. Got disqualified because the horn had been removed.

I haven't been impressed with some of the finish on the 14. Mostly the engine side covers and pillion foot rests. But hey, gives me something to work on. Nobody in the  :clapping: crowd has noticed. Even my 87-year-old-lady-next-door-neighbor admires it.

Grog... didn't get into biking until 77.... so these were a little before my time 😉.... I recall stuff like the gt 250, X7 etc.... both 2 stroke rockets.... but then I was never a fan of 2 strokes.. smokey stinky things 😜😂😂

I was part of a gang of local lads into bikes, trouble was I was by far the youngest. By the time (1976) I got my brand new Suzuki AP50 they had progressed to the 250 range and bigger. I got so fed up of being left behind on a route and arriving at the next smoke stop just as they were leaving lol.

Three months before my 17th birthday I put in for car and bike test. Bike test came through one week after 17th, borrowed mates Kwak KH250 and passed first time. Within a week I got a GT750 and was now leading the crew lol.

No wonder so many kids got killed in the 1970's, lost 3 mates myself.

You must have been smoking a whole pack 'till your mates caught up.  :smoke:

My first was a British "Bitza" based around a Villiers 250T. At 14 it was in at the deep end on this monster (for then) cycle cross machine.
Learnt everything the hard way with each lesson costing 8 square inches of skin and half a pint of blood. Oh, and three conclusions and a fracture.

Later bikes included DT 125, XT 500, RD 400.

Then a long break whilst I did the car "thing"

Last bike Harley Sportster. Then retired early to France in 2015 and spent the last few years rebuilding old house, it's nearly finished (should be in Feb) then two weeks to 're roof the old bread oven house or, as it will be known, "Suzi's"  :smitten:
If you are going to run out of fuel, do it in your garage.

It's only a short walk to the kettle.
