Just a thought.
I have a few fuel cans that I leave i n the car.

Whenever I fill the car I fill the cans, which I use to fill the bike.
Just top up when you get home.

haha, yes dave it was me! sorry for holding you up mate. I think only one thing was flashing, but can't remember if it was the bar or the pump icon, but which ever it was it had only just started flashing. it was on 2 bars for ages and I was thinking i'd fuel up once I got through the tunnel, then it went to one bar in the traffic before the tunnel, then died in the tunnel. keeping it above 2 bars at all times from now on!

If it runs out with that much left something is wrong.

Drop the fuel pump out the tank & see if the white plastic clip has popped off the pressure relief valve, they are known for it & once that happens it does seem to cause to to not work on low fuel.

How to do what Hooli suggests (good suggestion) http://gsx1400owners.org/forum_test/index.php?topic=1610.0

Yep, think I will have the tank off and check all the filters/clip/sender etc, thanks for the suggestions.

fylfot

ok, had the fuel pump out today, clip was in place and the teabag filter wasn't too badly clogged, but I washed it all out with carb cleaner and refitted to bike. Weird thing is the pump is really quiet now? before on the ignition sweep it would make a noisey whine, but now it's much quieter, but I didn't really do owt to it.

Hooli

Doesn't take much, but a quiet pump is a good sign.

gsxbarmy

As Hooli says a quiet pump is a good sign. Maybe it wasn't too badly clogged, but that suggests there was some clogging thus free it all up and its not going to have to scavenge so hard to deliver the motion lotion. Could well be problem solved!!

My 14 has a silent fuel pump but my Speed triple has a very noisy pump, can sometimes hear it over the engine, has done it from new so I have just got used to it.
