Ok, so ridin my 14 through the Dartford tunnel on sunday, it konks out right in the centre, had to push it for what felt like an eternity to the tunnel exit, that bike became the heaviest thing in the world by the end of it! my question is, on the fuel gauge there is little rectangles, 5 or 6, I still had 1 rectangle showing, but it was actually empty, is this normal?

Was it flashing? as opposed to just on steady?

In the owners manual it says, last bar on (steady) & the wee fuel pump icon flashing this happens when there is about 6L fuel left. Last bar flashing and the fuel pump icon flashing occurs when there's less than 1.75L left.

Important to remember, these figures are when the flashing starts, not when the rider notices they're doing it - could have been on for a while, depends on how much notice you're taking.

with 1 box flashing my 14 will do 30 miles
but with 1 bar and the petrol pump icon flashing i have done 15 miles but everytime i turned the throttle it spluttered i wouldn't like to get that low ever again.
so unless your fuel sender is reading wrong we need to know what was flashing to help.
main thing i would say is as soon as you see 1 bar look for a garage to fill up.
if you fill then give it a few seconds and fill and do the same till it is properly full you should see atound 200 miles per tank unless you go mad with the throttle.
finally yes its a workout pushing the big 14

Pfft, I run out at the bottom of a hill on a Pan Euro. They make a 14 feel light AND have those stupid wings on the fairing so you can't hold them upright to push.

I have a fuel pressure gauge in my bike for certain reason. I have noticed that the fuel pressure starts to wobble when 19 liters is used,
even she runs ok.
So, it may not be safe for fuel pump to use those last three liters?.

I fuel up when down to 2 bars, as I had noticed many years back with my 1st 14 that she massively stuttered when ripping the throttle open going up hill. With T24's above info I am certainly to keep this up.

So it was you holding me up and causing the RH tunnel to be closed and the rescue vans sent in!!!! I remember seeing a bike in the "rescue" centre to the right as I immediately exited the right tunnel quite late in the afternoon (about 5:00 ish?), due to the traffic being a bit busy, didn't realise it was a 14 - or you!!!!

And if you think a 14 is heavy, try pushing an Explorer, a further 28lbs heavier and higher to boot as well.

The fuel gauges in 14's are never that accurate, essentially whenever mine got to one bar, it was look for the nearest fuel station and top her off.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

haha, yes dave it was me! sorry for holding you up mate. I think only one thing was flashing, but can't remember if it was the bar or the pump icon, but which ever it was it had only just started flashing. it was on 2 bars for ages and I was thinking i'd fuel up once I got through the tunnel, then it went to one bar in the traffic before the tunnel, then died in the tunnel. keeping it above 2 bars at all times from now on!

Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Saw a guy run out of fuel on a Harley.

A normal person would get a  lift to a servo, buy a can of fuel and go back and fill up. Easy.

Not this fella, he was more of a "genius". He got a car (presumably a mate) and hooked up a rope from its towbar to his forks and pulled him to the servo.

Yep, those Harley riders are up there for 'smarts' eh...

...and then the Winged Hussars arrived.

He'd be worried someone would nick it, or damage it.
It's illegal to tow a bike with a car in NZ, a bike can tow another bike though.
