10 years today, since I last had a drink.

It was in the 3 Crowns pub in my home town of Kidderminster, before I set off to Manchester for yet another flight back to Australia.

Still miss it.

Being sober on my Wedding day, and my 50th birthday the next day wasn't that much fun, Xmas's are a bit different too.

Being able to count the days has been good motivation for me though.

I like a drink, but i don't do moderation well, so in my case its probably better that I don't.

Good on ya Tony, well done that man!!   It takes more self discipline to say no.  Your head will be clearer, your thought patterns more concise & direct.  You'll also have more coin in your back pocket - to help keep all those machines on the road & you riding where & when you want with no chance of D.I.C.

:coffeescreen:  I'd do cheers, but here's a coffee!!

I could see myself turning into a heavy drinker 37 years ago and wanted to ride more than drink so I just packed it in, still don't miss it.

If only I could give up the beer, I could have more bikes but then I would need a bigger shed. I know a guy who gave up smokes recently bought himself a new H2 when he realized the money he was saving.

Big congrats Tony!!!

My best friend started again after 5 months. I have noticed a marked breakdown of mental capacity over the last 10 years. That aspect is not in the foreground when talking about alcohol but something very real.

Very much so.

I've rarely been single much of my life, but never had a partner for any great length of time, 1 wife, 2 fiancée's, several girlfriends etc.   I've now been with my current partner for approaching 7 years and married for the last 4 and we are planning years ahead. She's never seen me drink.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti drink !
I had some great times and wish I could now.

I just realised some folk don't handle it well and it effects them for the worse, and some folk struggle to moderate.

Nothing wrong with it done right...  :onya:

I worked with a bloke that didnt smoke or drink. One day i asked if he went to church. He said no....i said did you ever drink, he said yes. I said were you good at it? He said yes very good but not very nice with it. From that time on he would have a lemonade with us on a Friday night.
Mick was a fine bloke.

Congratulations Tony i take my hat off to you.  :onya:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Agree, there is nothing wrong with just about anything when done right (in moderation). I have had my own struggles with moderation which landed me in serious trouble. Six months rehab and 2 years aftercare with the official conclusion that I was not fit to work anymore. Now I am happily retired but on a low budget. I was a workaholic and got a major burnout. That were not the only issues though, as often this can be very complex. I am good now and satisfied with my life. Taking it easy and relaxed, on and off the road! The 14 certainly gives me great joy.

Not easy when the state drink is "fightin' juice".

I drink very very little.
I have bottles of rum unopened (or win which the levels haven't dropped) in 5 years, three bottles of scotch unopened since I got em 10 years ago, etc.

I bought a carton of beer at Christmas.  Drank 5 of them over the course of a few days and gave away the rest...

It's staying off the darts that's my challenge... been going well since 1 April....

I'll drive up with my side scrubbed tyres for anything that you have in your cabinet, will take the scotch but have you got Bushmill's ;)
