Mr Gee

Set about investigating, the cause of the rough running under load.

Discovered one of the plug caps cracked and breaking up.

Wrapped PVC tape around it for now but have ordered four new ones, oil and air filters from webike Japan.

Ordered some iridium plugs, too.

Will swap the caps and plugs out and service her when they arrive.  :onya:

GSXKING

Save your money on iridium plugs they're not worth the expense 💵

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Mr Gee

Only £2 difference in the price. Hardly a huge, saving.  :confused1:

??
Genuine iridium plugs retail for around 25aud each.  Lots of copies around that claim to be iridium and sold cheap. Stock std plugs retail for around 8AUD each.  I'd call that a saving

Now there's ruthenium as well as iridium, platinum & standard.Doubt any performance difference, iridium do last well, 110 th k in my wife's car.$48 set of them trade price.Talking NGK, only plug I rate.My bikes had iridium in over 10 yrs, pretty much fit and forget. 🤷🏼

Eric GSX1400K3

Yep, 100000km on one set of plugs in the BMW. The Geisha Girl just gets std NGK, she's a cheap date

KiwiCol

I've got a set of 6 Iridium plugs (imported from Australia) ready to go in when I do that service, but, gotta say, nothing wrong with the std plugs she runs at the moment though.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Hooli

I put Iridium plugs in my K2 once, it didn't like them. Plus normal plugs do 50k miles before external rust stops them earthing properly so what's the point?

grog

Much more rust your end Hooli. Mine been ok👍

GSXKING

I remember buying iridium for $25 each and fitting them and being seriously unimpressed.
However their longevity can't be overlooked but they required cleaning when removed and refitted just in case.
Best value for money has been K&N re-oilable air filter. Cleaned thoroughly using the K&N detergent and reoiled with that pink stuff I'd hazard it's 15 years old. So do the sums on that saving.

Agree Chris, a lot of people bag K&N, I like them. Geisha Girl has one, was in there when I bought it. Regular cleaning and not over oiling is the key. Follow their instructions.   Bavarian Mistress has one too, just put in a paper filter to see the difference,  plus the Mahle one came with the service kit I bought.

Only reason the BMW has iridium plugs is thats its a right out pita to change them. Plastics off, radiator out, coolant drain and coil packs off, so doing them once every 10years only makes sense.

K&N no brainer.Plugs last for ages any type. Now let's move onto oil and tyres, riveting stuff.

I have my favourite oil, air filters, plugs etc etc, because I know what works for me and what I prefer.

The bike world seems to be a hot bed of folk willing to argue about the "right way".
Age of a crash helmet ?
Age of tyres ?
Split links on chains ?
GSX14 jack up blocks ?
6-pot calipers ?
The "best" bike stand / lift ?
Puncture repairs ?
Service intervals ?
I'm sure there's a lot lot more!

I can be guilty of it, but I just know what I like.

It's probably for the best some folk can't see half the stuff that I do...
