Welcome Irish, certainly turned NSW weather on for you. Around 40c with wind🥵 Records in some places.

Oil drained with new filter, removed generator, clutch and signal cover to get powdercoated next week. Just need to get some oil, waiting for quotes on getting the engine bars chromed.
Thankfully we all like different things, and I like a modded GSX1400

I took the snotbox for a ride up to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway yesterday, to see some old relic they're using for a couple of weeks.

There's Henry!   Just wait a minute & Thomas will be along shortly. :salute:

Spent the day giving the bike a long overdue birthday. Fitted my new chain and sprockets then gave the whole bike a good clean and a bit of a polish. It's starting to show its age I'm afraid.
Looking forward to going for a ride with it's new driveline. Interested to see how it rides now.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Enjoy Col, love a bike with new chain/sprockets👍Yeah they show their age but not too bad i reckon. Just gotta keep at it. Ive seen some Triumphs, RoyalEnfields,Indians that age much quicker than 14. Never looked at the Chinese ones so dont know.

Update on Bilbo: seems I have walked through the gates of Mordor...rechecked everything i had done again just to be sure. Talked to a few places, including wreckers re a new ECU, all said they dont have any, and were surprised if it was the ecu at all. Bloke in SA said highly unlikely, as then youd have no running or rough running at all rpm, which is not the case here.

So I checked STPS (replaced with genuine new last year) this time at the connector and removed air filter to move them to check resistance.  Turns out it was giving 2.9kOhm open and 0.8 closed, the latter being to spec, but the former should be 3.9kOhm according to the book.  So I adjusted it, but its maxxed out at 3.3kOhm open and 1.1kOhm closed.  Cycled the ignition and it showed 3.6kOhm, close enough to the required 3.9kOhm for now.  Also cycled through closed to full throttle 3 times, then fired it up, still runs rough, but admittedly it hasnt run for about 3weeks, but seemed better. Let it warm up, and the stva worked for a bit so that was good.  The backfiring was not as bad either.

Ran out of time tonight but will take it for a ride again later this week to see what difference that has made, so fingers crossed, not quite at Mt. Doom yet....

Might have to file out the slotted holes in the STP housing to get to 3.9kOhm if that has really made the biggest difference.

Fingers crossed...

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Not so sure about ecu comments. You did check fuel pressure? Maybe needs to be hooked to a diagnostic scope, ideas running thin.

Can't remember if you've already checked, but have you checked at the ecu end of the loom for any high resistance/breaks from any of the sensors?

checked fuel flow only, im getting 1.3l/min. Need a pressure rig to test that. Thx, will look into that though.

all sensor checks done as per manual. None of them failed continuity checks, all ecu pins are good, but thanks for the tip.

Just the STP reading 2.9kOhm instead of 3.9 kOhm.

I removed the little steel inserts from the sensor body this afternoon, this gave me about another 2mm of sensor movement. Set the STP at 3.905kOhm acc to the multimeter. Cycled ignition, it then read 4.11, so dialled it back to read 3.902kOhm, close as I can get it. Slots in the sensor are pretty much maxxed out.

Update, just got time to run it and warm up.  Seems to be 100% better, no backfiring and popping through the airbox, and relatively smooth rev imcrease from idle to 4-5k rpm.

Will try to find time for a ride tomorrow, but definitely an improvement.

Your patience has been amazing Eric I think I'd have burned it before this lol  :hat: I tip my hat to your resilience ✅👍
Now get out and enjoy the rides you've deserved.

Still searching for the illusive intermittent fault on my wee beastie.
Can't make stop when it's working.
Can't make go when it's not.
Everything checks out ok on the multi.
Damned if I know. :frustrated:  :frustrated:  :frustrated:  :frustrated:
