Quote from: KiwiCol on Thursday, 16 October  2025, 11:48 AMHad the front wheel off (again) getting ready for the new rotors, they're in the country & cleared customs, so I hope to see them by Monday.  Cleaned the rotor mounting bolts as they had another layer of blue loctite on them, ran a tap through the threads on the hub to clean those out too. Then decided since it's all accessible, I may as well give the rim a bit of a rub up.  While I was doing this, I realised this would be the first time in the bikes life that the front wheel has been polished up.  I know I've never done it & I'm sure the original owner never had the front off, so he never did it either.  Came up alright, I'll take another one with the new rotors on.
Been looking at new levers & tires!!  God knows why, damn thing isn't even registered!!  Stop throwing money at it. :whatever:

I drove into town to get some new Loctite / thread lock to put the spare discs onto my spare wheels, I had some already but I knew it was quite old.

New disc bolts turned up and I then realised they come pre-coated blue in thread locker from Suzuki.

Now I have old and new thread locker gathering dust !

So, been hunting for either a good s/h ecm or a place that can have a look at Bilbo's brain.

So far, all thr wreckers in Perth is have rang have said they don't have any, one even said he'd never even broken down a 1402.

Eurotronix has a 3week wait

There's a dyno shop near me that also does remaps and stand alone systems.

Current thinking is that I may go down that route, it would be the same cost or cheaper than a s/h ECM.  Will have to find out their wait list and costing is.

Another option would be a PC5 or 6, Will possibly look for a s/h unit, the DYNO JET website lists the PC6 at 449USD, but due to all the shenanigans in the US, they don't ship to Oz.

At this point id even contemplate to buy the ecm from an unused black 1402 residing in NZ, even though it would be a lot slower.... :stir:

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Another option for you, not sure if it'll be any quicker however. There's a business local to me (Toowoomba QLD) who offers both dyno tuning and "mail-in" reflashing. Damien's a borderline genius with this sort of thing but can be very busy, could be worth a call. Diagnosis and tearing into ECU's is something he does as well.

He's tinkered with 1400's in the past. I'm a customer and my own 05 is close by should he need to plug into a functional ECU at all. He's tuned a couple of my bikes and some for mates as well.

Eric, the unused GSX is a K6, so unfortunately they're not compatible, 1 plug vs 2.  Think it was Hooli who mentioned it needs to be a K2.    Besides, the unused K6 now has a clean wheel . . .  :rofl2:

Yeah, thought as much Col, just stirring.

Correct, the ecm connector for the K2/3 is different to K4 and on.  Horse contacted me and kindly offered to let me swap his ecm into mine, so he rode all the way down to my place  only to find that his K4 ecm is the 2 plug kind. Still very good of him.

Id wait the repair time Eric. Used one is as old as yours, no guarantees itll last. Just my thoughts. Doesnt PC5 or reflash still require a good ecu?

He's REAL good.  My Gen-3 was going there for a full derestrict before I blew all the money I had saved !

Today I bought some fuel, BP98, in a 20ltr can.

DRZ has a 10ltr tank, and it's less than ideal leaving home with a half or 3/4 tank. I have to plan my trip to include a servo, or go the opposite way and fuel up with a splash to top it up.

A can of fuel will let me leave home with a full tank. I doubt the fuel will age as I can do the same to my other bikes, and being lazy and forgetful it's be an expensive way to finish my mowing when I run out of my can of 91.

Not ideal storing fuel at home but I have to have 91 and diesel here anyway, I have somewhere away from the house and bikes for it.

I store lots of fuel here.  I got lots of engines.  My main fuel storage is the boat fuel tank, 270L.   I put that in when fuel was under a dollar per litre, bit different now when I go to fill the boat up.  + 3 x 20L tanks as well.

My K7 has been in storage for 7 1/2 years.
Fresh 98 premium, new battery and off she goes. Little erattic on tickover for short time then running sweet.
Off for a blue slip next.

not sure mate, AFAIK a PC piggybacks on the ecu and sends its own signals to the injectors based on whatever fuel map is loaded, it doesn't use the ecu apart from (say) crank and cam, map and iat/iap sensors.

If my ecu is faulty, its only something in the fuelling tables, as engine will start and run, just not correctly in terms of fuel that is added.

Going away this weekend, will tackle the local tuning shops next week, get some pricing etc.

Blue slip passed.
He mentioned the rear tyre was getting low, I said "plenty of tread on there" his reply "on the sides"

Spoke to a guy who works for Suzuki.

How the Hell is a DRZ so loud when new and why is there an optional baffle for a new bike in the accessories list ?

He laughed. They are complianced with an exhaust insert. They are absolutely strangled to the extent that they run crap and no one would want to ride one. The inserts are then removed. Not a drama for farmers, off roaders etc who want occasional road use. It's that common that Suzuki list a baffle that doesn't make them 100% compliant but knocks a few db's and the harshness off them.
