Cols being a bit tough on you Horse. I applaud you for going green, they tell us we must to save the planet.

Throughout my working life as a panelbeater my biggest disappointment was to go pick up a car from the painters and say "great job shame you didn't paint it the right colour"
Knew a bloke that did a repaint, the colour was close but not what was asked for. When the customer said I don't think that's the colour I asked for the painter went and got the colour book and showed the customer, who then took the car. The painter (Bruce lol.) had painted the colour chip

At least it's not blue and white Horse !
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Yeah dissapointing as he did three sprayouts and we settled on the amount of gold in the Black 7.5 grams per litre I think he did 75 ,thats what you get when a heap of old people are involved ! I ill give I a month and see if I can live with it

Quote from: Horse on Friday, 25 July  2025, 11:26 PMAfter a little trip over the handlebars , the old girl got a some dings fixed and a new coat of paint , thought I asked for Black with a little gold pearl in it , (was overseas) came back to lots of gold pearl and a GREEN bike.Assembled it today and not sure I can live with it but will see if it grows on me ! (like mould I suspect)

I'm impressed with the badges.
That paint looks very high standard and being a custom job no one can truely critique it imho. Imagine if you'd stuck with that boring old shade of black 😳😳😳😂😂😂 eh Col 🤬

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

Nebula black has it's admirers. . .

I wasn't being hard on Horse, just my honest opinion on that colour tank on a Black 14. If the rest of the bike was the same colour that would be different, but it's original.  Yeah, nah.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

The rest of the bike is that colour ,all shaggers gold (the name the painter gave it) every part that was Black has been painted. It gives me hope that you still think its black!

Looks good,Some nice bits on it, black link pipe, fork brace etc.Fork brace for mine id like but expensive bling.Yeah, id be happy as it is, expensive/ time consuming to change.

Kiwifruit

Now we've all taken the piss. I'll be honest, my first thought when I saw your pic was 'that's a good looking bike', I showed management, she liked it to. It's subtly different but still a classy classic 14. I wish mine looked half that good.

I had a closer look & yep, I can see the same colour on the front guard, the rear is harder to tell & TBH that's what I was looking at originally. I guess it depends on how the light strikes it as the tank has a greenish tinge, the front guard only slightly & the rear section looks pretty much black. If you've had the whole lot done with that, then just leave it.  Lot's of colours change depending on lighting & angle of reflection.

Today, something was in my head telling me bike wasnt right. Side covers off, yeah, one grommet had fallen out, torch search and sitting down inside. Lucky. Then i find fuel overflow hose touching chain. It is possible to have a lucky day.Next time tank is off ill be more thorough.

Today was test ride after fitting block off plates and new covers PAIRS. Forever all that stuff has been left intact, intake hose and vacuum hose blocked off. Totally disables it. Well today, i know it cant be, know nothing can possibly change. My ride today, much smoother off throttle, decel way better.Has always had a tiny hiccup on decel, thats gone, stupid old fool your saying, off my medicine  All i can say is how it is. Bloody beautiful on/off throttle response. Enjoyed my run. Best shes ever gone.

Borrowed a compression tester from my mate, but he didn't have the M10 fitting i need for the spark plugs. Also borrowed his leak down tester, but ran out of time tonight. Trying to see if I can adapt the hose from the leak down to the compression test, but don't want to break borrowed tools obviously.  The compression tester I've bought arrives next week.

Removed all spark plugs, engine spins freely, no clunks or crunches.

So my ebay sourced A$13.85 compression tester arrived, nice quality, proper brass fittings, o-rings, a schrader valve in the end, quick connector and a decent pressure gauge to 300kPa.

Did a cold compression test first with throttle closed, and I got (from #1-#4): 145/140/140/145 kPa. Workshop manual says to overhaul engine if all cylinders read less than 158kPa, even if the difference is less than 28kPa.  Manual Also says to do it at engine operating temp and with WOT.

Now, I can't get the engine to run long enough to get hot, so I did another test at WOT and I got (from #1-#4) 167/160/162/165 kPa.  Spec is 168kPa at warm engine, with an allowable 28kPA variation between cylinders, so in my book, a cold test that approaches these values is a pass.

Also, all 4 pots showed clear stages of pressures over 4 cranks,so that indicates all is well there.

Checked the could packs again and where the ht leads go into the plug adapter, I trimmed 5-8mm off the ends and re-inserted them into the adapters, all of them showed a bit of oxidation on the copper ends of the leads, so maybe thats fixed it.

Tank back on tomorrow and fingers crossed.
