Yeah power cuts are terrible things. My last one was nearly 2 seconds long & I had to reset the clock on my oven while the internet router rebooted.

Quote from: KiwiCol on Monday, 26 May  2025, 07:39 PMCool, I've got a couple of generators here as well, as we're an earthquake & flood prone part of the country & we need to be semi self sufficient in a disaster situation.  We'd be cut off for months probably, only access to this area would be by air (or sea), if the airport survives . . .

One is an 8.5kva & the other is 3.5kva

Power is the only service we have.
No mains water, gas, septic, phone or internet, no dustbins, no postman. Don't really need any of it, we have really good alternatives, 140,000 ltr of water in tanks, modern multi chamber septic, Starlink fast internet, a PO Box in the nearest town, 2 gas bottles that last over a year,  just power left to do.

We have a 25Kva transformer on a mainline to a local town, but it's never been that great, the lines are up to capacity.

Long term plan is always to go big on solar and disconnect.  When we priced up a system we were happy with, to match mains standard, panels, batteries, back up generator etc, it was waaay over $50k, I got a transformer put on the mainline line and put my own power pole in for $4k.

I've been a fan of gennies since the quakes in Canterbury. Bought an open frame Honda one at that time, but as I have to work at home sometimes, and we get maybe an outage a month, I purchased a smaller Honda inverter (EU22i) to run the computer stuff - it's very quiet and starts first time, every time.

others have told me "A stable sine-wave alternator" is something I needed.
Modern 240v ac devices need a 'clean' alternating current (ac) to avoid getting burnt out. The generator creates DC voltage, and the alternator/inverter on it converts that straight line (direct) current into a sinusoidal line (alternating) current. However, cheaper versions can create a very choppy curve. The steps in those lines creates harmful eddy an voltage pulses.  What is needed is lots of smaller steps so you get a smooth curve and no harmful pulses. Modern led globes, phones, tablets, smart watches and laptops are sensitive to this, old school filament globes etc not so much.

Today I ordered an Insta360 Ace Pro2 & Samsung SD card.  Gonna get some better videos of my travels on the R3GT, once I learn to use the camera functions. :onya:

Today bought bike insurance. Budget Direct. $205 which is $180 less than renewal from current insurer.Maybe worth a look Aussies.

That is an absolute awesome price Grog!  Our Insurance is way higher, in the hundreds higher.

As it happens I recently got my contents insurance renewal, no claims or any issues but the premium went up 34% on last year!  Bloody sure inflation wasn't that high.

wife's car is now with them too, they are cheaper, but also provide good policies and coverage. They have been rated #1 for 4 years in a row by Canstar, the independent review people.

Interesting. You were paying exactly what I am with Shannon's. I've just had confirmation from them today that the 701 I crashed a few weeks ago is a total loss (I expected as much) so I'm curious to see what that does to my premium before I start shopping around again shortly. They've been excellent to deal with mind.

They were untouchable when I had modified and vintage cars in the past but I've gradually reduced the fleet and have no real need for "enthusiast" insurance presently.

My only concern, market value only, cant agreed value. No big deal, 14 not really worth much, except to us who own one.Priceless machine.IMO. 😂

4 new injectors as I'm still having issues despite cleaning the whole fuel system.  I suspect injectors are blocked or worn out from having such dirty fuel run through them. A local injector place wanted aud 66 per injector to flow check.  Rockauto.com has them for aud56 each brand new.

I found a set of 4 for under aud40. Will try them, if no good, I'll order the rockauto ones and still be cheaper than getting them checked.  Suzuki oem are aud320 each!! These injectors are pretty common, ipn771 is the designation, cross checks with the oem part number 15710-65D00, used in 4 cylinder outboard and various Mitsubishi and Suzuki car models as well.

Not today, but recently I brought an Insta360 Ace Pro 2 action cam, because I wanted to get better video of my rides.

Well, after having to also source a new ram mount for the bars (32mm) I was ready to give it a shot. To say I'm happy with the result would be an understatement, this thing is fabulous and the play back of the recorded info is staggering, just wonderful. Gone are the vibrations and shakiness, I can pause the video and read a licence plate where as I couldn't do that with my previous cam.
I've got a new Samsung 256gb v30 micro sd card which will keep me going all day if I want it to, I can record while on battery or while plugged in to the bike. I've got a 2nd battery & separate battery charger that charges the spare camera battery using either the bikes usb port (1 under the seat in a compartment & another one by the handlebars) or a powerbank, so I have plenty of power avail to go with the all day sd card.

I've just ordered a real fast usb cable for downloading from the camera to the laptop, current one only does 75mb/sec (which to be fair doesn't hold things up much) the new one can do up to 40gb/sec, but my 3.2 usb ports don't go that fast, think 10gb/s is their limit, but still waaaay faster than my current cable.
Now to wait for the better weather to come around so I can get some more touring miles into the lens . . .

We've had our turbo diesel Corolla for 15 yrs and it's done 313,000 kms (we've done 270,000 of those). Best car I've owned too, and as we have one car too many, I keep thinking of selling it and then back away from it. Not sexy cars, but so reliable.
