In addition to the fork seals .......

I had to fill the tank the other day and to my dismay, it seems that the dreaded rust has returned somewhat, not as bad as before but enough to piss me off.
I have decided to go down the molasses route, as this seems to be the cheapest and most recommended way, with people reporting good results (including Allen Millyard et al).
5 Lt of molasses for less than a tenner. It just takes longer, but patience is free.
The only tedious part of this is making the tank watertight underneath, as I want it to be upright when I fill it. I don't think it would be prudent to leave the pump and sender in there.  :whistling:
The alternative is to half fill and rotate daily.

I went out on the 14 today with a mate to give his bike a shake down ride, we did about 20 miles or so, on open roads and round town. She performed beautifully, only one niggle, an intermittent nearside brake light fault. This seemed to be a loose wire, as it was happening over speed bumps etc.

The 14 ran great but the fork seal leak was present still, so that will need to be addressed ASAP.

We called in at my mate's Daughters house for a cup of tea, and while we were there, there was a knock at the door. It was a bloke riding a beat up old CB400 Super Dream, asking if we had any spares for a CX500, so if the Guy phones, it looks like we have sold some mufflers and a CDI unit.....BONUS !! :boogie:

Fork seals and dust covers from Brookes showed up today, and they look different to the ones that are fitted, well the dust seals do anyway.
They won't be fitted for a while as We're going camping in Wales on Sunday.

Looks like the middle of winter there at the moment on the camera. It is really nice down that way, worked in a quarry in Tonfonau many many years ago & stayed in a hotel in Tywyn close to the old cinema

I'm sure you will make the most of it & have a great break  :onya:

So we attacked the fork seals today, straight forward until we had to crack the bottom damper cartridge bolt. Liam had to go back home and get his battery powered impact driver, which thankfully did the job. after that it was plain sailing. I built it all back up and got the wheel in. I took the little helper (Grandson) to the shop for some treats, and while I was gone Liam found that the adjusters on the top of the top bolt assembly were not equal, one had the full 18 clicks the other only had 7. So off they came, we dropped the forks thru the clamps and adjusted the lock nuts to their proper distance, thereby reinstating the correct amount of adjustment. both set at 8 clicks as per the manual.
An enjoyable half a day in the sunshine with lots of tea.

Top tip - crack that allen bolt at the bottom before you strip the forks. The pressure from the spring holds everything in place & makes it much more likely to just come undone.
