Overhauled the top clutch cilinder, had a little trouble bleeding it but eventually it worked. Think that there was still a little air in there after last year after I blead the bottom cilinder after cleaning it and fitting the extra seal because it shifts a bit smoother.

Phill P

Fitted some new handlebar risers, horns and some side panel graffics.

Nothing special, 200 miles around north Yorks cause it's sunny today.

I just looked at mine, but I did take the new CBR1000f out for a whizz, GSX is next in the queue.

Oh & I ordered oil & filter for the HD via a mate's trade account too. Got the tyres & brake pads already here so can service it once the oil arrives.

Might ring the dyno place to get it booked in next week. As it's got a downloaded map that disables all the O2 sensors along with a homemade exhaust. I'd like to get it checked & tweaked so I know it's right. I think it's a fraction rich currently, which you'd expect off a downloaded map as they always make them a bit rich to be safe.

Today a wee ride about up the east coast of Scotland over to Dundee to Stonehaven then inland to Braemar and back down over the mountains to home
Only 204 miles of blue-skys and wall to wall sunshine 🌞
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

That's a great route seth, did that a couple of times when I lived there.  It's a fantastic place when the sun shines and the views go on forever.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

So I took the old girl out for a run yesterday after fitting the replacement throttle bodies, OMG what a difference she pulls better now than ever, in fact better than any of the previous 14's I have owned I would say, massive grin factor at the torque and acceleration. I have some popping from the exhaust on over run that was never there before so thinking possibly the PC3 map needs to be altered now that she is running properly, but not a major problem

Not quite sure why changing the throttle bodies has made such a difference as running my original injectors, other than a previous owner messing with them or the actuator motor not functioning correctly, anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers, Pete.

My first thought is the TPS or SPS were badly adjusted on the old ones. If not then either the secondary throttles were massively out of balance (only way to check that is statically) as I've found that once on a bike, got them level by trapping a drill bit under each butterfly & then rebalanced the throttles once it was all refitted. Or the fast idle was well out of adjustment & the ECU was compensating, as it uses the SPS actuator it could have meant the secondaries were in the wrong place until about 3,500rpm when they open fully (I think I've seen that figure quoted somewhere & it matches how the bikes feel to me).

There's really not much else to them is there? Except or possible sealing failures so there was an air leak about one or more butterfly pivots.

Thanks for the reply Hooli

I had replaced and adjusted the TPS & SPS numerous times & it never really made any difference tbh, now I've got the old bodies off I will have a bit more of a look and see if I can see anything obvious. I thought I had cracked it when I replaced the TPS as the readings were fluctuating with the original sensor but made no difference to performance when I fitted the new sensor

One thing I have found strange, when balancing the throttle bodies, once 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 are balanced as pairs when altering the screw on top to balance both banks if I have 1&2 doing a bit more of the work the engine seemed to run a bit smoother than when the two banks were totally balanced, however if 3&4 were given a bit more to do the bike idled as rough as hell to the point it wanted to cut out at idle, did this with both sets of throttle bodies  :confused1:

Hooli

That is strange indeed.

Good luck finding the cause, something like that would annoy me if I couldn't work it out.

The only thing I could think of was possibly one of the intake rubbers split so the air/fuel mixture was to lean or rich on one or more of the cylinders, but they all looked good when I had the throttle body out, or possibly valve clearance issue but they were all within spec when last checked about 1000 miles ago. Ah well she's running good now so best not to ponder for too long

Cheers.

I'd also be wondering if the vacuum gauges are accurate.

[/quote]That crossed my mind as well, only 12 months old direct from carbtune, but ya never know I suppose. I think I might do them again this evening and set it up to where it sounds right and give it another run see how she goes. You know when an engine sounds happy and when it's labouring a bit, almost like advancing the timing on an older car with electronic distributor and you could hear the sweet spot

Hooli

I know my vacuum gauges have little screws on the face to adjust them. I have to make sure they are the same readings before I start. Mind you fiddling with the restrictors in the vacuum pipes can give odd readings too. My gauges are cheap ones though.
