No washer, just turn the tap on. Fumoto. Now that is a worm can, my worms are friendly.

Spent $25 on a blue screen for my blue bike..

Same here @grog, turn the tap and let it drain, easy peasy  :onya:

OK.  I have never bothered to change mine, either. sump doesn't leak, hasn't done so in the last 4 oil changes.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Rode 14 down to visit my mum for the weekend. Despite lots of traffic and crusing at 4,500rpm in top when the roads were clear enough, she still did 52mpg.

I'm sure they run better at higher mileages.

I got a phone call about my HD yesterday. The insurance have finally agreed the repair costs! I then made things complicated by asking if I could keep the old slip-on as it's only got paint damage & I was going to modify it this winter anyway. The dealer couldn't help as not fitting the new one is fraud as the insurance is paying for the work & they have to retain the parts as they become property of the insurance company. I'd hoped they could just knock the £350 or so off the excess I'd be paying when collecting the bike. Can't blame the dealer though, that all makes sense legally.

I think called the insurance to ask about keeping the old parts & got an offer I didn't know existed. I can get paid out cash the total value of the repair they agreed with the dealer (obviously less than I'd pay for the same work) and then fixing the bike is my issue. Now considering they are paying about almost £4k & I'm damn sure a lot of the expensive bits (tank, primary cover) they are replacing weren't damaged in the crash, it seems rude not to accept that offer. I think with a guess at HD parts costs I can put it back on the road for £2-300 as I just need three bits for the gearshift.

I'm going down the dealer tomorrow to go over the damage with the techy who made the list, just to double check I've not missed anything. But I'm confident I'm right as I know what damage they'll have spotted & it's not from the crash. Then once I've confirmed that, I'll order the gearshift bits I need & a touch up pen. I've got a mate with a bike trailer so I can bring it home & sort it myself. The scratched panniers will get a smear of filler in the grooves & a layer of paint over that. They won't be quite perfect but as I plan to keep the bike for good, I don't mind. My rough mental maths says I'll end up with about £3.5k in my pocket at the end of it all, which sure helps with the CC debt that holiday built up.

The plan with the exhaust is cut it back about 8-10" to the rear mounting for it & maybe cut the baffling out inside the can. It's a bit too quiet as it is & that should give her a bit more noise as I often can't hear the bike when riding it. I might well spoil her with an open air filter too as I like a bit of induction roar.

I didn't know that existed either @hooli, sounds like a great result and money in the back pocket toboot, nice one. :onya:  :onya:

They said it's an option they have, it's not a right to ask for it. So guess I was polite enough to them when I rung up.

It's no wonder insurance premiums are so expensive when they pay out on a quote to repair the bike to original condition and the premium holder then fixes it to their own satisfaction and pockets the major difference imho it sounds like a rort. Good luck to you Hooli but you won't be the only case out there I'm fairly confident. If the insurance company can wash it's hands of you by just stumping up the cash it's a significant saving to themselves so premiums should really reduce but that'll never happen they only ever seem to increase exponentially.

Workmates $4000 Triton got crashed into. Insurance said bent chassis, paid him out.We cant see anything wrong with it. Told him he could keep it. Cant be sold registerd or insured but ok to drive if he keeps paying the rego every year. All quite legal. He rents it out as Uber Drive, gets $50 a day. Uber does everything, advertising etc, he just has to give renter the keys and pick them up when finished with. So far over 50 days rental.

Read the small print Twice theres bound to be some lies in there somewhere .

When my 14 got biffed by a useless Woman non male driver I asked the repair shop for all my bits back and they sent them to me no problem.  Seems some play the game and some don't.

To be fair to them, all the damage they have listed is real. The dealer tells me they don't paint stuff, they order replacements so it's got factory paint quality etc. The tank, primary cover and both panniers total about £2,200 for list price replacements, I'm happy to run them as they are with some touch up paint as I'm not expecting to ever sell the bike.

I've been down the dealer again today for a look over it with the techy who did the list. There are two tiny chips on the tank I hadn't seen, from the size & shape of them I'd say the tank landed on my ankle as the bike fell over because they pretty much match the metal bits on my boots the laces go through. Which explains why my ankle was so bad, that's a lot of weight on an unarmoured boot. There is a small damaged area on the primary too, below the clutch cover but you can't see it till the bike is in the air or you get on the floor. I never got that low to look cause of my ankle at the time.

I might be odd, but as I plan to keep the bike long term I'd rather have minor marks that show it's history than replace loads of bits. As in my head once you've replaced loads of parts, it's not the same bike. It's just a bike that contains some of my bike's parts. That probably sounds daft to most people.

I'm getting prices off the dealer for just the parts for the gearshift & to supply & fit them. Chances are I'll let them do the work as it's less than an hour's effort. I know I could do it in 30mins or so. Along with that it'd be much easier to get a lift to ride her back than organise a trailer to do it myself.

Guess we'll see how long it takes the insurance to pay out now. I'll get paid minus my excess, even though it's a non-fault claim because they tell me the process is when they get the full payment off the other company that's when my excess comes back. The dealer reckons 7-10 days to order the parts, so that's getting close to shitsmus, meaning 4 months since a minor crash I'll get my bike back. Bloody good job I've got others or I'd have gone mad not riding for this long.
