Hi just having front wheel powder coated, with new tyre but the black paint coming off discs. Discs and pads are in good condition so reluctant to replace them. Any ideas? thought about trying to spray but seems a pain in the arse masking up.

Wow, I've never seen rotors go like that before.  Do you ride a lot on gravel?

IMO, If you're going to paint them there's no choice but to painstakingly mask up both sides of each rotor.

I know @Kiwifruit knows a thing or 3 about painting, so he may have a suggestion for you.   @Del also does a heap of painting, but haven't seen him on here for quite a while now.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Send me those and buy some new ones Steve......
or you could paint them. Masking is a pain but that's what you do. Masking tape scalpel and patience.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

My front discs have decided to warp or one certainly has. OK at higher speeds but a real pain in the arse around town or down hill.
More of a pain in the wallet is the cost over $1000nz for genuine and $800 ish for MTX or MBX aftermarket. Bugger !!

Check these guys out. I have them front and rear on my 1400 and had a set on some heavy duty rims I had on a 1290 Adventure.

Good quality. I have thus far cheated braking related death and they've held up every bit as well as OEM discs in my experience.

I punched in my brothers place at Cooks Beach to estimate shipping and it seemed reasonable. Around $600 NZD all up.

My rear is Metalgear, seems ok to me👍

Same here, metalgear front and rear and pads, work well
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I'm now curious to know what's causing the paint to pit like that. Check your fork tubes for pitting of the chrome as well.

My guess would be that it's been on a salted road and put away wet.
Look what happens to your sea fishing gear if it's put away wet.
Once it's penetrated the surface corrosion starts.

Thank you gents. It appears we have a Metalgear supplier in NZ. Fronts $299 each, wavey $345. Wavey or standard guys ?

IMO, no choice Steve, new or mask up.Would look stupid with fresh rim otherwise.Masking is just patience & a few beers😎 Standard for me Col.  but thats just me.

KiwiCol

Std, leaves you $90 more for petrol.

Petals push the pads back a little further for less resistance in general.
I like the look so bought a matching rear as well. I have Ferodo brake pads as they are donated by a generous friend who imports them. I have race setup braided lines from our local Hel representative with titanium fittings. We don't suffer the weather issues with salted roads, so I've never even serviced my calipers since new.

Standard for me Col, wavey may look better on a streetfighter but not a muscle bike.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Standard, wavey always look broken to me.
